once the binding was done, it was quilting time! like the binding, i was quilting by hand bc the 3d-ness of the quilt was too good to accidentally stitch down by machine And i wasnt sure i'd finish before we went to visit so i wanted smth i could do away from home jic!

next step: binding! i picked this fabric bc i thought it was light enough to blend w the creams in the middle, it has light & dark pink to match the pink end, and the green leaves are dark enough to look okay against the green side

rows all joined, it was time to Start Sewing ! this blanket won't really get quilted because. it'd ruin the 3d element a bit i think? so this is the really intensive part instead. i'm sewing through 6-8 layers of fabric the whole time !

finally they were all done !!! it was essentially a pure white blanket (aka Boring!) so it was hard to see the vision unless u knew what came next (i took the last pics to show the nonbelievers)

here: sewing began ! each base row square got 2 triangles sewn on, covering the front of the fabric. the diagonal between the triangles had to alternate per square and then that zigzag alternated per row

then !! i had to layout the colorful squares to figure out the gradient! this took a few tries and a lot of little swaps and stuff, but this was the final layout! and then i had to get them into Very Organized Stacks bc if anything gets messed up i'll die <3

once i had all the fabrics, i had to Cut ! there were ~700 squares of colored fabrics and ~900 of this white fabric, all of which had to be ironed into Triangles (this took a few days and suckeddd)
