Not much solace for those frontline Garda members being hauled before the courts for simply carrying out their duty. Members are now apprehensive and second guessing their legitimate actions for fear of being prosecuted and losing their livelihoods.

Ten gardaí are currently before the courts for alleged dangerous driving or careless driving incidents which happened during the course of their duty. The Garda Commissioner said in some of these incidents, “nobody has been injured”, yet gardaí have been charged. jrnl.ie/7101857

Failure to implement previous and current agreements and purposely letting the current deal run out inexplicably and they now expect unlimited goodwill from Garda members tasked with policing the 6 month EU Presidency all the while consistently breaching working time regulations.

We also need legislative change to better protect Garda drivers involved in pursuits as well as proper pursuit driver training and a separate drivers licence for Garda members on duty. Those tasked with implementing the law must be afforded legal protections to enable them to carry out their duty.

Very interesting conversation on @rtetwip.bsky.social with a number of elected politicians regarding lack of visible policing countrywide. Is it not obvious that the current "modernisation" programme within AGS is utterly failing the public?

It's hard to believe that it took an expert consultancy company to outline to Garda HQ what has been staring them in the face for years. So would it be fair to say that it's a "crisis" now?
