I hadn't realised until recently that you can see the summit of Mount Kithairon from the centre of Athens. That must have been all the more the case with a huge column of smoke rising up (if Pausanias is right about sacrifices on the summit). mountainsofgreece.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk/2025/12/06/k...
