This in situ shot was a stroke of pure luck. The endangered Florida Bog Frog is only known to occur at <160 locations in 3 counties in the Florida panhandle. This one was sitting quietly in clear open water near a seep. #herps

I was very exited to see a Long-nosed Snake because they do not occur east of Texas. I also quickly learned they have the curious defense of expelling blood and mucus from their cloaca. #herps

There is a small disjunct population of Plains Spadefoot Toads in south Texas. The rest range from Alpine/Ft. Davis area north into Canada, including a couple of spurs east along the Arkansas and Missouri Rivers. #herps
The Rough Earthsnake ranges into the northern quarter of the Florida peninsula. This one is from one of the most southern populations in the state. #herps
