In Ep. 272, Tom Brown @nworbmot.bsky.social shares a new model which shows that by 2030, solar and batteries could supply 90% of electricity to 80% of the global population for less than €80/MWh. It would not only be cost-effective, but also likely cheaper than gas. xenetwork.org/ets/episodes...

[Episode #273] – Solar and Batteries Can Power the World | The Energy Transition Show

Can solar and batteries power the world cost-effectively? A new model says yes.

In this time of turbulence, let's not forget the good news on solar and batteries - now cheap enough that most people can get most of their electricity from them, and save money. Had a great time with @chrisnelder.bsky.social on this podcast discussing this new world: nworbmot.org/blog/solar-b...

🎙️ www.diw.de/de/diw_01.c....

Where do Germany's electricity imports come from?

In 2023, Germany's electricity trade balance shifted from net exports to net imports for the first time since 2002, resulting in an increasing discussion of these imports in the public debate. This st...

With government support uncertain, how can we catalyse investment in the new energy technologies we need? 🔌 💡 One option: companies committing to 24/7 carbon-free power (CFE), who don't just reduce their own emissions, but trigger technology learning and emissions reductions in the wider system. 🧵

Our German live-data fully-renewable electricity simulation deals with another dark wind lull (Dunkelflaute)! Because of repeated Dunkelflauten, the hydrogen storage is now down to 60% full. Will be exciting to see how much further it runs down this winter. model.energy/future/
