Here for the sanity lacking elsewhere. Union strong, supporter of public education everywhere, which I reckon makes me a socialist - not a bad word in Canada. Cats. No lists. “Always neighbours; never neighbors.”🇨🇦

US government, drooling: “What is ‘tail risk’? Why Carney use words?” “I think you have a responsibility in these roles to look at extreme tail risk," Carney said. "That's just risk management . . . not a base case, but it would be irresponsible not to [prepare]." www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

He’s not leaving, folks. Vote in November, but realize that you will have to do much, much more. Are any of the Bluesky celebrities (those with “reach”) calling for anything other than voting? No massive, unending protests? No general strikes? No suggestions at all? Step up, folks.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com · last wk.

President Trump said his proposed 250-foot triumphal arch will now be a “top grade” military complex that will house drones, snipers and ammunition “for National Security purposes.” https://wapo.st/4deuPN5

Ironically, and appropriately in the current circumstances, Canada will survive the US tariffs through high oil prices, as we supply 61% of US oil imports - especially needed for diesel fuel. Thank you, USA: your Iran war has given Canada a gift that more than offsets any of Trump’s tariffs.

The people that voted for a dictator caused everything to go up. This is the price of gas before and after Trump started a war with Iran. #TrumpStartedAWar #TrumpIranWar #GasPrices #TrumpRaisedThePriceOfGas

“Democrat-led states need to look north to see what real, functioning opposition looks like. It isn’t firing off breathless fundraising emails to fleece suburban voters. Real opposition is drawing a line in the sand, refusing to bend the knee to an imperial bully,” no matter the cost to the state.

“40,000 🇨🇦 Canadian Soldiers, 153 of whom died, fought with us after 911. They weren’t attacked. WE were attacked, but they sent their troops to go fight with us.” The way the Felon has treated our Canadian friends, we are not worthy of their friendship. His actions are disgusting and disgraceful.

So . . . if the expected November miracle doesn’t happen, can we expect a rapid increase in the frequency and severity of protests throughout the US? No more weak fear-mongering about “giving Trump what he wants”? The rest of the democratic world wants to know. www.cbc.ca/news/world/t...

This does not affect the vast majority of Americans, which is why there is no mass mobilization of the people into the streets, general striking, etc. The mechanism that gave you Trump/MAGA is the only hope you have? Really?

AN ICE BADGE DOES NOT MAKE CRUELTY LEGAL. Masked, armed agents chased and tackled a citizen in Anaheim. A badge doesn’t override the Fourth Amendment. Know your rights: PAXIS.app. Record safely. Demand accountability. Help keep PAXIS free: GoFundMe.com/PAXIS

If you are a working person of any collar colour, and not in a union or actively pursuing unionization of your workplace, you are a serf and a fool. There are no good arguments against unions. Don’t be one of those, “But my boss is good to me w/o a union.”

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social · 3w ago

Corporations spend more than $1.5 billion a year on union-busting. That’s $1.5 billion they could have spent on higher wages, better benefits, and improving workplace safety. Remember: if they weren’t so scared of worker power, they wouldn’t fight so hard against unions.

The Ur-Nazi nation is now leaping back into its old ways. Thanks Trump/MAGA. Thanks social media, for giving these degenerate freaks a voice. The world had largely destroyed fascism in modern democracies, but then we gave fascism a bullhorn, thinking it was just a toy. www.cbc.ca/news/world/f...
