😱No sleeping tonight-I don't want to play this game anymore‼️ A major waterway on our property/adjoining main highway is already swollen to yard (9:46am). Trees from July 21 flood created a dam in front of our house, but WVDOH still too busy rebuilding folk's destroyed bridges/roads to their homes.🧵

The morning is already off to a very active start, and we need to talk about the escalating severe
weather and flash flooding threats for today.
As you know, heavy thunderstorms are already moving through the area. Even more concerning
are our rain totals, which show intense downpours rapidly dumping significant amounts of water.
When you combine this kind of heavy, training rainfall with the Excessive Rainfall Outlook for our
area, this isn't good. The ground will saturate quickly, meaning flash flooding is a major concern
today, right alongside the ongoing risk for severe thunderstorms.
As a reminder, here is the timeline for how the rest of the day and tonight will unfold:
Noon: Scattered showers and strong thunderstorms will continue to fire up, particularly across
the northern half of the state.
6 PM: While some areas may see a brief lull, keep your eyes to the northwest. A very intense
complex of storms will be organizing and starting to cross the river into the Mid-Ohio Valley.
9 PM: The main event. A widespread, heavy line of severe storms will sweep right through the
heart of the region. Expect torrential downpours (worsening the flood threat), severe wind gusts,
and intense lightning.
Midnight: The heaviest core of the storms will drop into southern West Virginia and begin to
exit the state, leaving behind some lingering rain.
Turn around, don't drown! Never drive through flooded roadways, and make sure you have
multiple ways to receive severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings throughout the day and
into tonight. Stay safe out there!

More rounds on the way ... Some folks have already experienced two rounds of storms since
midnight. But two more rounds are on the way.
The model data has consistently shown that the third round will be the strongest round of storms
of the bunch. 60-70+ mph wind gusts will be possible within this cluster/line of storms. With so
many waves of storms pushing through, flash flooding will continue to be a major concern. The
ground is already saturated in parts of central West Virginia and southern Ohio.

MAJOR FLASH FLOOD THREAT THIS WEEK -

We are tracking a highly dangerous and
moisture-loaded weather pattern locking in over
the Mountain State! A stalled system is going to
funnel pure tropical moisture directly into our
region, acting as a massive fuel source for
torrential, slow-moving thunderstorms.

Take a look at the attached map! This shows the
projected 7-day rainfall totals across West
Virginia. See that highlighted area stretching
across the heart of the state, including
Charleston, Beckley, Elkins, and Clarksburg?
Those deep red and orange shades mean we
could easily see 5 to maybe even 6 inches of rain
in those zones over the next several days!

Because these storms will be "training"-
meaning they will move over the exact same
areas repeatedly-our grounds will quickly
become saturated. This will cause rapid runoff
into creeks, streams, and poor drainage areas.

Went to our former family home today in downtown Weston, WV. Generations since 1965 lived there-I last owned it. It had over 3' of water from the flash flood & all of the walls are just studs now. I'm heartbroken, just beyond. 😭 I'm so glad my Nana & Mom are not alive to see 'our' house like this.💔

His own home – a double-wide trailer that he’d recently remodeled – was knocked feet from its foundation. A porch and some cinderblocks are all that’s left from one of his son’s houses. Debris from the rest of it washed down the creek and tangled in nearby trees.
Now, Mulholland is angry that the West Virginia and federal governments haven’t done more for his family and the rest of his community.

“He’s running this country,” Mulholland said of President Donald Trump. “He’s worried about what’s going on over here and overseas…but he’s not here worried about us, the people that voted him in office. My gripe is ‘where’s he at?’”

Gov. Patrick Morrisey has requested an expedited major disaster declaration that would allow individual assistance and public assistance for Lewis County, where Mulholland lives, and six other counties hard hit by deadly storms and flooding on July 21 and 22. The Trump administration has not yet approved the declaration.

Mulholland said a representative from the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been to his house and told him if the Trump administration approves the disaster declaration, they’ll offer him $48K for his home, which he’s put $300,000 into. The federal government could loan him money to rebuild, he said he was told.

“That’s not what us fellow West Virginians or fellow Americans want to hear,” Mulholland said. “They want to hear our president and our governor of West Virginia step up and say, ‘Look, guys, what can we do to help you?’ And they ain’t none of them doing that.”

Mulholland is also angry that Morrisey and Trump haven’t been to his neighborhood to see the damage and speak with affected residents. Morrisey has so far made four visits to flood-affected areas of the state, speaking to reporters twice from Buckhannon and once from Weston. He also visited St. Marys and Weston last weekend.

July 21, 2026 Extreme downpour (7.1" of rain in less than one hour) caused a mass flash flood to cover the entirety of Lewis County, WV in water. The damage to every part of the county is not only widespread, but all downtown businesses were impacted. The two grocery stores (1 being Wal-Mart) were also hit -WM will be shutdown until December 2026. President Trump is so-far refusing the sign the formal Expedited Major Disaster Declaration sent by WV Governor 2 days ago, after FEMA's initial survey on July 24th found that Lewis County's damages far exceed the $1.5 million requirement.
