Who’s behind the massive lobbying campaign to expand the island airport? Toronto Star opinion writer @rwarnica.bsky.social dug into lobbying records and found one company that stands to gain "significantly" if the federal and provincial governments go forward with an airport expansion plan.

Richard Warnica: Who’s behind the massive lobbying campaign to expand the island airport? What I discovered should worry us all

One key player? A large American bank.

The owner of Nieuport Aviation, the J.P. Morgan-affiliated IIF, is registered in the Cayman Islands. A former J.P. Morgan banker, Hai-Gi Li, sits on the board of Nieuport Aviation. A 2023 document from J.P. Morgan also lists Nieuport Aviation under its portfolio/operating companies roster.

The kicker: the Liberal script is we’re waiting to see plans. But their own agency, the one they oversee, is actively making concrete plans. To be polite, Toronto MPs are being profoundly dishonest with their constituents. THEY are making airport expansion plans.

On Thursday, Chi Nguyen, the MP whose riding includes the airport, said on CBC "Metro Morning" that she's also hearing from residents and has questions herself, but "doesn't have an official position" about the province's takeover, saying there
"isn't a proposed plan in front of us to react to.In an interview this week with the Globe and Mail, TPA president Roelof-Jan “RJ” Steenstra outlined some details of their expansion plans that could involve adding 900 metres of land for a longer runway — nearly a kilometre — into Lake Ontario — far more than previous expansion proposals.

With much of it jutting into the lake to the west of the airport, that’s a runway aimed directly at south Etobicoke and is breathtakingly close to Ontario Place. Folks enjoying a theoretical relaxing day at Ford’s Therme spa will surely be able to read plane tail numbers and smell jet fuel.

Even though Torontonians themselves are largely in the dark, the city’s own Liberal MPs have a direct connection to and authority over plans their own government agency is cooking up right now. They can’t play passive, coy or cagey anymore: they are in a unique position to give real answers to their constituents and take a clear position. Actually, with the port authority plans, they already have.

No arrests of the ICE thugs who murdered Alex Pretti, Renee Good, or Keith Porter. No arrests of anyone in the Epstein Files. But they arrested Don Lemon because of his journalism.

Former President Barack Obama issued a warning about the future of American democracy, while speaking at an event in Connecticut. Obama cautioned that the country is “dangerously close” to normalizing behavior “consistent with autocracies.”

Barack Obama warned on Tuesday night that the U.S. was “dangerously close” to allowing its government officials to act in a way “consistent with autocracies,” offering a veiled rebuke of the Trump administration that was delivered with trademark caution.

Meg Barnette, wife of New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, speaks about ICE detainments happening across the U.S. after Lander's office says he was detained by ICE. The Department of Homeland Security says he was arrested for "assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer."

BREAKING: Harvard is suing the Trump administration after DHS revoked its certification to enroll international students. Harvard’s president called the move “unlawful,” warning it threatens thousands of students and strikes at the heart of higher education in America.

🚨According to litigators, ICE just put a dozen men on a flight (which may have already taken off) to SOUTH SUDAN, a country on the brink of civil war, in direct defiance of a court order requiring ICE to give people an opportunity to raise objections before being sent to a country not their own.

Last night N.M.’s attorneys were notified that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) intended to remove him to South Sudan. See Exhibit 1, Declaration of Jacqueline Brown, Exhibit D (email to counsel); Exhibit E (notice provided to N.M.). N.M., a Burmese national with limited English proficiency, refused to sign the notice of removal to South Sudan which was provided to him only in English. Id. This morning, they learned from a detention officer via email that N.M. was removed this same morning to South Sudan. Exhibit F. As with the motion for temporary restraining order that Plaintiffs filed not even two weeks ago, on May 7th, Dkt. 89, and which this Court agreed ought to not be necessary, Dkt. 91 at 1, this motion should also not be required as it blatantly defies this Court’s PI to remove class members without a reasonable fear screening and a 15-day opportunity to submit a motion to reopen after any negative reasonable fear determination. Earlier this morning, class counsel received notification of a second class member, T.T.P., a national of Vietnam, who appears to have suffered the same fate as N.M., as well as information that there were likely at least 10 other class members on the plane to South Sudan. See Aldana Madrid Decl., Exhibit A.

I heard Stephen A. Smith tell CNN yesterday that "people are afraid they're going to lose their job for messing up a pronoun" and it really amazes me how many people don't realize they are awash in intentional propaganda designed to make them afraid of the wrong things and angry at the wrong people

Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.
