Manu Aute Kite Day in Puketāpapa is one of my favourite events every year. It’s always a great time meeting people from across the electorate and beyond. Good food, activities, music, and people. It’s everything you need on a beautiful sunny day like yesterday.

A great morning in the campaign trail in Lynfield. A super meeting with residents at Murray Halberg Village who were informed and engaged around a huge range of issues including climate change, housing, the Treaty, jobs for young people, and health. 1/3

My campaign to win back Mt Roskill is grounded in face-to-face conversations with as many voters as possible and a personal commitment to doorknock on every street in Mt Roskill.

June 21 is International Yoga Day and I joined hundreds of people at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for a great introductory session to this ancient practice that is good for body, mind, and soul. A good bike ride in and out to get the heart pumping too, although got totally soaked on the way back!

If you come across a political candidate at your doorstep/shopping centre over the coming week who looks like he has just been in a bar room punch up then rest assured it’s just because he was crossing the road to the bus stop, got distracted by an unusual tortoise shell cat crossing the road…1/2

The City Rail Link is going to be one of the most transformative projects Auckland has seen in generations. It was great to tour the new Te Horitiu Station with Phil Goff and others yesterday. 1/3

It’s been a full on couple of days in our campaign to win back Mt Roskill and change the government. With our growing volunteer team I’ve been out on local streets enrolling people to vote in Three Kings, we’ve doorknocked in Avondale. 1/3

Mt Roskill’s public schools sit at the heart of our community and it is important for me to keep in touch with their concerns and issues. I dropped in to visit staff at Lynfield College last week and to review progress on the school’s long-running building works. 1/3

Saturday evening saw a huge turnout to acknowledge the Fiji Girmit community. 147 years ago the ship Leonides arrived in Fiji carrying the first group of indentured Indian labourers to work the sugar fields under British rule.

It was a busy day on the campaign trail today meeting people across Mt Roskill. I had an especially rewarding few hours meeting Principal Neil Robinson and staff at Blockhouse Bay Primary, and then talking to small business owners and workers in the town centre.1/2

Last weekend’s bike ride was a nice loop around Māngere Mountain. Highlights are the ride over the harbour, nice views along Kiwi Esplanade, and then skirting around Ambury Park. Lovely weather at the moment for some time outside to think about the week ahead.

Steep driveways on Francis Curtin Ave make for a good workout while doorknocking! I’ve now doorknocked on every street across Blockhouse Bay and have enjoyed meeting residents who will be coming into the Mt Roskill electorate for this year’s election.

At the Mt Roskill War Memorial Park for ANZAC day. They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.

My weekend bike ride was about 30 kms, an interesting route I have done a few times, which goes around the inner Manukau Harbour. I enjoy the shared path on the southern side which takes you through mangrove forests on winding boardwalks before emerging in Favona.

I speak with people every day who tell me about the very real and painful impacts of the affordability crisis. Families, businesses, and communities are struggling, and this Government simply isn’t stepping up to the plate. Labour is focused on delivering for hardworking people.

I’m holding a public meeting in Blockhouse Bay next Wednesday 22nd April from 7:30pm - 8:30pm at the Blockhouse Bay Community Centre. Among other things we’ll be discussing the site between Bolton St and Marlowe Rd, and how we want to shape it moving forward.

I’ve helped get 35 people enrolled in Roskill South over the last little while, with many more enrolled by our dedicated team of volunteers - including many first time voters! We want everyone in Mt Roskill to be able to have their say this year and enrolment is the first step 1/2

My Easter weekend walk took me down to the Waikowhai Coast and through the tracks that wind their way around and through Hillsborough Cemetery. This is an historic part of our community with stunning views out to the Manukau Harbour. 1/2

It was a great to attend Nepal Day at Aotea Square yesterday celebrating the enormous contributions of our Nepalese community in New Zealand. Fantastic food, warm people, and exciting music made this years celebrations feel both lively and incredibly rooted in a deep, rich, and beautiful culture.

The Indian Central Association is the peak body for the New Zealand Indian Community, and covers 22 local Indian associations from north to south. It celebrates its 100the anniversary this year, a reminder of the long history of contribution to New Zealand by the Indian community.1/2

Happy Easter Sunday all. It is the most important in the Christian tradition, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. More broadly it signifies new life and beginnings for everyone, and the hope of something better on the other side of grief, death, and struggle.
