I'd probably have agreed a month ago, but the primary fight has kept El-Sayed's name showing up on local newscasts every single night. I don't think that months of "extremist outsider" attacks are going to hit as hard as they would if he was entering the general as a complete unknown.

Finished reading @ajbauer.bsky.social’s recent book, “Making the Liberal Media”. I recommend it as a well-researched, straightforward historical narrative documenting how “liberal media bias” grew to become a binding tenet of conservative identity between the 1940s and the 1990s.
When I first saw the headlines I didn’t realize that the DoD casualties website is an ancient looking web app, driven entirely by database. There’s a universe where this could have been an innocent code change, but imho it’s much more likely they knew what they were doing.

Even by their standards, this is strikingly dishonest behavior by Sinclair. They launder support for the Trump speech this week through the opinion of a "former FEC chair", but at no point does the piece mention that the former FEC chair in question is a 2x Trump appointee (2020 and 2025).

I wonder if this is anchoring misdirection. They get a lot of commentary saying that 20% is the problem, and a day or two later come back with 1.776% for favored nation traffic and 4.7% for everyone else. Suddenly it sounds somewhat reasonable.

Watched tonight’s Michigan Senate debate between El-Sayed and Stevens. They both leaned into their core campaign message. For El-Sayed, that’s being an outsider who isn’t bought and paid for. For Stevens, it’s experience / track record in the house.
I’ve enjoyed this World Cup so much that I’m going to seriously consider watching soccer at other times.

I was awoken at 1 AM last night by the floor-level explosive gas & CO detector in my kitchen briefly sounding a shrill alarm. After investigating, and confirming there was no actual emergency, I suspect that my dog inadvertently triggered the alarm while farting in his sleep.
I’m no stranger to criticizing journalists, but the New York Times DID report on this, in May 2025, when it was happening.
