Michigan 1st is close to being called for Callie Barr. The numbers Blomquist would have to rack up in Traverse City and Marquette don’t seem possible to pull off.

I'd probably have agreed a month ago, but the primary fight has kept El-Sayed's name showing up on local newscasts every single night. I don't think that months of "extremist outsider" attacks are going to hit as hard as they would if he was entering the general as a complete unknown.
I know what’s going to happen in Michigan and I just assume that the Senate is now out of reach
With Michigan’s primary election day finally here, the vibes on the ground feel like El-Sayed +10 to +15
Just looking at this bag of dog treats gives me a sudden and intense longing for frosted animal crackers
Finished reading @ajbauer.bsky.social’s recent book, “Making the Liberal Media”. I recommend it as a well-researched, straightforward historical narrative documenting how “liberal media bias” grew to become a binding tenet of conservative identity between the 1940s and the 1990s.
When I first saw the headlines I didn’t realize that the DoD casualties website is an ancient looking web app, driven entirely by database. There’s a universe where this could have been an innocent code change, but imho it’s much more likely they knew what they were doing.

The Pentagon removed the names of 4 servicemembers who died in Jordan from their official list of Iran war casualties. They explain that this is because "their deaths occurred after President Trump declared a cease-fire in the war in April." Free gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/07/23/u...
Her full response here is great. Pointing to how difficult it’s been to even raise the minimum wage really highlights the absurdity of someone asking about actual communism.
Reporter: Isn’t there concern that this slippery slope to socialism inevitably ends up as full-blown communism? AOC: They want to call everything they don’t like communist because if people actually wake up to the fact that their elected officials are screwing them over when they get here
Even by their standards, this is strikingly dishonest behavior by Sinclair. They launder support for the Trump speech this week through the opinion of a "former FEC chair", but at no point does the piece mention that the former FEC chair in question is a 2x Trump appointee (2020 and 2025).
Former FEC chair: Trump's declassified documents should strengthen election security
Trainor also said the information outlined by the president should prompt renewed scrutiny of election systems.

Last night, the president made significant claims about noncitizens present on state voter rolls. "According to the DHS review, state voter rolls and public records, they identified approximately 278,000 non-citizens who are registered to vote in federal elections."
Found out today that conspiracy theories are way more boring when read off a teleprompter
Trump on alleged Chinese interference in 2019: "They focused on undermining confidence in the US president. They wanted to just want you sound like your president wasn't so hot, when actually your president has done a great job."
Here in Michigan it was a really big day for the cabin air recirculation button
As expected, Stevens seems to have captured most of McMorrow's remaining supporters, moving to +7 (48-41) in a WDIV/Detroit News poll. This will be a very close primary race.
Stevens gains edge in Dems' Senate race that remains 'wide open,' poll finds
A new poll shows Haley Stevens holds a lead over Abdul El-Sayed for the Democratic Senate nomination, but some variables could swing El-Sayed's way.

I wonder if this is anchoring misdirection. They get a lot of commentary saying that 20% is the problem, and a day or two later come back with 1.776% for favored nation traffic and 4.7% for everyone else. Suddenly it sounds somewhat reasonable.
A 20% charge would work out to about $32 million for a fully-loaded very large crude carrier at current oil prices. That’s far higher than the tolls that have been charged by Iran, which have previously been described as reaching $2 million www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Upgraded my kitchen knife storage with a Piotr the Bear knife block. Next up will be new knives.
Watched tonight’s Michigan Senate debate between El-Sayed and Stevens. They both leaned into their core campaign message. For El-Sayed, that’s being an outsider who isn’t bought and paid for. For Stevens, it’s experience / track record in the house.
I’ve enjoyed this World Cup so much that I’m going to seriously consider watching soccer at other times.
Can he hurry this shit up I want to see the world-record fireworks that my tax dollars paid for
Trump: "The stars and stripes cast the hammer and sickle into oblivion before and we will do it again if necessary"
At least this makes it easier to clean house in 2029
BREAKING: The Supreme Court upholds Trump’s firing of FTC commissioner Rebecca Slaughter without cause. The decision overturns a 90-year-old precedent that protected the heads or board members of independent agencies from arbitrary presidential dismissals. Full story to come.
Algeria passed the ball around at midfield for literally 5 minutes and in the final minute of stoppage time randomly broke out and scored a goal to win. Incredible finish!
austria and algeria have finally decided it is too late in the game to risk fucking this up anymore pretty good game for a would-be disgrace!
I was awoken at 1 AM last night by the floor-level explosive gas & CO detector in my kitchen briefly sounding a shrill alarm. After investigating, and confirming there was no actual emergency, I suspect that my dog inadvertently triggered the alarm while farting in his sleep.
I’m no stranger to criticizing journalists, but the New York Times DID report on this, in May 2025, when it was happening.
Trump Officials Consider Suspending Habeas Corpus for Detained Migrants (Published 2025)

Journalists have a duty to tell the public that the president and his aides are seriously considering suspending habeas corpus *when it is happening* rather than saving it for a book rollout over a year later
Loved Anunoby in this series, but Brunson was the clear MVP.
Jalen Brunson is your NBA Finals MVP 🏆
Hey @forbes.com, this headline is off by 3 orders of magnitude. SpaceX holds $1.2 billion (with a B) of Bitcoin at current market value, NOT $1.2 trillion.
Elon Musk’s mega-company holds more Bitcoin than cryptocurrency broker Coinbase.
At halftime of game 3, Chuck was declaring a Knicks sweep. Amazing vibe shift just 4 quarters of basketball later.
Loved this essay from @jamellebouie.net. American democracy is in a graveyard spiral and it's becoming increasingly clear that recovery is only possible through meaningful legislative, judicial, and electoral reform.

One of the support branches broke for the nest featured on the Great Lakes Bald Eagle livestream. I know this nest has survived rough wind in the past, but with its new odd angle I'm very concerned about durability. The lone eaglet is still a few weeks from fledging.
