Website about London. All sorts

Found this plan for Charlton data centre proposal. They're not going to try and squeeze the proposed main public transport route across this 8,000-home master planned site to the north of the data centre? If there's even now a route planned at all. That would be, sub-optimal, shall we say.

I've just seen two videos of the fire. One with a fire close to tracks in Bermondsey and another taken later seemingly on the tracks. Earlier videos didn't show that so could be arches beneath have gone up or debris landed on track.

New block opposite Kings Cross station which doesn't seem too popular. Very 1970s in design with those dominant vertical lines. I always associate this era and design style with car centric design. Choosing that opposite a major station is interesting.

Greenwich have made another howler in confusing Abbey Wood and Thamesmead. Two very different towns. They have shown many, many times how ignorant they are of the area. Helps explain flawed strategy documents and bizarre transport measures See DLR plan and recently supporting bus cuts in the area

Not sure places like Abbey Wood estate have ever looked so bad as now. Little more than a forgotten dump. Ignored for decades under Tories, then New Labour, then Tories (and a dash of Lib Dems) and now Labour again. Detached middle class people should pay a visit. Would open some eyes.

Some decent public realm in Bromley. Pavement in a darker tone so weathers the years better. Tree. Nice bench. Outside seating. Not rocket science but makes a successful town centre.

Lots of excuses from the Mayor of London today on more abysmal housing start figures. Just 1,070 affordable starts over three months for a city of nine million, with 183,000 people in temporary accommodation. He's trying to big it up, as last year had an even more lamentable 374 starts.

Two bits of housing news out today: Public housebuilding is more than 20 per cent lower than last year. Households in temporary accommodation have hit a new record high. The effect of Labour having few plans nor increasing funding for building new homes when taking power.

Good design (from this angle) but deeply flawed as a vehicle. And soon to be gone from the SL11. As ever, it's almost fully empty. TfL *really* screwed up with this route - and cutting routes that serve 1000s of new homes which the SL11 does not.

Have I missed the eclipse? The 1999 one was shite in SE London. Was doing work experience for Greenwich Council at the time, in advance of the Millennium Dome opening later that year. Staff were all great. The eclipse was crap. Barely dark.
