My writing process is always the same. Write the thing. Hate the thing. Delete the thing. Rewrite the thing. I accept this about myself.

I can't believe I forgot to share my new favorite notebook that is too delightful to use.
Acquired an edited collection for a specific piece in it. Discovered that the piece will not help my current research. Was disappointed. Realized the introduction to the collection will surprisingly be super useful. Became happy. This is the academic way. 😅

Our 350th episode is here! Join Jessica as she explains 'Thankful Villages': the unfortunately rare locations that are able to say that all of their men who went off to fight in World War I made it home. www.footnotinghistory.com/home/the-tha... YouTube version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPFj...
On her birthday, Lamuu gets showered in love and dust in equal measure. She arrived just four days into the New Year, barely surviving a snare wound that left a deep gash encircling her left front leg. Under Keeper Lekoli's care, the scar is now healed. www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/lamuu
I love libraries. I particularly love the New York Public Library. Yesterday, I needed a specific chapter from a book, but it doesn't exist super locally. Today, a scan of it popped into my email from them, because my request was already completed. It's like research magic. Libraries are wonderful.
The last thing I, a person with summer SAD, wants is permanent Daylight Savings Time. 😞
A new day begins and Bumpy is ready for action (in Bumpy's world, 'action' is relative and mornings cannot be rushed)! Our little chap emerges from his bedroom, sheds his pyjama blanket, and takes a sun-dappled stroll to his personal pool. www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/bumpy
I look forward to the day my Ambo is this respected by the babies.
In elephant society, it's the mothers who raise the babies and everyone pitches in. But when young adolescent bulls leave their natal herd, it is patriarchal older bulls who help keep their behaviour in check. Rapsu – a 23 year-old ex-orphan – is one such male the younger bulls hero-worship.
If you haven't been to the New York Botanical Garden lately, and you have the opportunity to go, you should. Summer of Moomin and Flower Power are delightful. @nybg.bsky.social
I finished binging the 3 seasons of The Traitors Canada this weekend. This is what accomplishment feels like.
