Japanese Indie Dev / #Öoo / #ElecHead 『Öoo』 is Out Now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2721890/oo/

To celebrate the rerelease I'm going to post some videos from early development! This is the earliest recorded footage with just the controls / movement idea for mobile

Yesterday, I lost my phone at a big mall. I didn’t realize it until I got home. I rushed back to the mall and went to the help desk. Someone had already turned in my phone. I got it back. This is Japan.

Before full development of Öoo, I built a prototype to test whether bombs could push each other, stack on top of one another, and interact correctly. It looks simple, but implementing these kinds of "obvious" behaviors without using a physics engine was actually much harder than it seems.

#minathehollower I played it in fullscreen, but I think it might actually be better on a smaller screen. The art seems heavily inspired by Game Boy-era pixel art, which was designed to be viewed on a tiny display. The anti-aliasing blends together much more naturally that way.

#minathehollower The game gets an incredible amount out of a single action: digging. Jumping, dodging, exploration, flanking enemies, fast movement, carrying objects, activating mechanisms, and more. I love games that fully commit to a single core mechanic like this.

Öoo will be playable at both the GameMaker booth and the Nintendo booth at BitSummit! I’ll be wandering around on the 22nd and 23rd wearing a gorilla hoodie 🦍 Also… I actually can’t speak English very well 😭 I’m doing my best with translation apps and translated posts lol

My favorite game of the year so far might be Flip 7. It really made me realize how fun a luck-based game can be. Honestly, I could totally see it becoming a classic card game like UNO.
