OK, here we go: Beethoven symphonies 1-9. This is a Deutsche Grammaphon edition from 1972. It’s the Vienna Philharmonic, conductor is Karl Böhm.
It’s 93°. There’s a wonderful south breeze at 15 mph. I take a sip of sau blanc, lean my head back in the chair and look up, and this is what I see. I *live* for evenings like this.
This really sucks. It’s Flag Day, but I can’t put the flag up because I don’t want anybody – anybody – to think it’s for Trump‘s birthday.
The worst do-it-yourself job I’ve ever seen in a place of business. Specifically, a Chinese restaurant near Cincinnati, Ohio. I mean, just wow.
Tonight’s find at Purple Dog Records in downtown Naperville. “Slight warp” makes it sound authentic.
This cheerful little sign has been wagging its finger at passers-by near Baraboo, Wisconsin, for at least 25 years.
We joined more than 1,000 of our Naperville friends, and millions across the country in a protest against authoritarianism and just plain asshole-ism.
This one-time guitar player was surprised to learn that William Shakespeare coined the word “reverb.” (King Lear, 1.1.154)
“Let’s test your reflexes. Now let’s *really* test your reflexes.”
Seen in a local doctor’s office. They told me her name is “Clarice.” Not sure how I feel about this.
Whatever else is wrong with the world, at least we can still grow strawberries. Look at the strawberries. Just look at them.
Bike lane ends, so I’m on the sidewalk. Lightpole planted here why? Because &@“* you, that’s why. Much better than it used to be, but still a long way to go.
Got to sail an American 18 on Sarasota Bay today. I am inordinately happy to have sailed on salt water for the first time. Thank you, Sarasota Sailing Squadron, and my instructor, Jay.
This is pretty cool, and good news. Heart disease was how every man died when I was growing up in the 60s. bsky.app/profile/scie...
Pretty extraordinary to think about how much cardiovascular researchers figured out, and how that turned into public health campaigns, medicines, surgeries, and emergency care that changed millions of people's lives. ourworldindata.org/cardiovascul...
Right across MAGA- land. Let’s see how FEMA* responds to all those outstretched hands on Monday. * Oh wait, I forgot, the official Trump administration posture toward disaster relief is: “fuck all y’all.”
Finally traded in my steam-powered iPhone 8-plus for a new 17 Pro Transcendent Max Ultra Extreme. I feel so rizz, so happening … you know, “with it.” My first act with this bleeding-edge, ultra-sophisticated, communications device was to essentially disable the phone. We live in a very weird time.
This heretofore O-scale model train guy is digging the HO, thanks to a beginner-set Xmas gift from my son. I guess I’m *that* guy now.
Chicago seems to have a professional football team. Like with touchdowns & stuff. Huh.
