But can a clock—which distinguishes past from future—be truly reversible? Of course not! The resolution is that monitoring equilibrium fluctuations requires a detector that is out of equilibrium, producing entropy. Our friends @naresgroup.bsky.social showed this in a proof-of-principle experiment.

🕰️ What’s the real cost of reading time? ASPECTS experiment reveals that the measurement of quantum ticks—not their generation—is the dominant source of entropy in quantum timekeeping. Far from wasteful, this quantum-to-classical transition boosts precision. #FLQT2025

Me, a year ago: "Perturbation theory is always the same, second quantization is just filling in the gaps." 6000 lines of code and docs later: Pymablock v2.2.0 released🎉 pymablock.readthedocs.io/en/v2.2.0/ We have bosons, spins, fermions, and Floquet, and I'm quite happy about it.

What started as informal discussions on the Danube beach in Vienna during QTD2023 has been published at last. Trying to come up with an experimentally feasible quantum clock we came across a rich model – the ring clock – that overturned a common wisdom in the community. doi.org/10.1038/s415...
