The ARC has released their new set of grant schemes ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... Before implementing them, they’re now going to “consult with the sector”. Hopefully genuinely, not just with a few disengaged DVCRs. In the meantime, there’ll be another round of Discovery Projects (DP28).

"Unfortunate but inevitable" 😜 More on the completely unworkable grant time-frames ARC recently introduced (up to 16 months!) & the 'oh well, maybe it'll improve?' responses provided by ARC reps in Senate Estimates. By @jsresearchpro.bsky.social for @resprofnews.bsky.social. No paywall.

ARC is up at Senate Estimates this Thursday (12Feb) at 8pm (Canberra) – somehow not last on the agenda. I really hope they're questioned about the completely ridiculous & unworkable time-frames they introduced for all grant schemes (e.g. 16 months for DPs!)👇 * Still 3rd last but before ANU & TEQSA

⁉️The ARC has delayed outcomes of ALL grants 1–4 months & increased scheduled outcome windows from 2 weeks to 3 months! This reverses 4 years of progress in providing greater certainty & ability to plan for researchers, their families & unis. Their excuse? Security checks under new ARC legislation👇

The Australian Biomedical Research sector is in crisis due to years of chronic underfunding. We recently asked Australian researchers how they felt about their career prospects. This is a word cloud based on their responses 😢🧪
