#FossilFriday flashback: My lab published two major papers this month on 1) dental functional morphology and 2) vertebrate paleontology & paleobiogeography. It made me so proud of the research teams I've been a part of over the past decade, but it also prompted reflection on my academic path (🧵1/5)

A new study in Science details how a dental tradeoff may have shaped mammalian carnivore evolution. Learn more in this week’s issue: https://scim.ag/4571LlU

The image shows skulls and lower jaws from several living and extinct mammal species, highlighting differences in size, shape, and feeding adaptations. Featured specimens include an extinct saber-toothed cat alongside extant species. This subset highlights specimens that were specialized in either crushing or slicing as well as a species of civet that was balanced in both functions.
