Close enough. I was surprised to see Phoenix as my third match — I don’t think I lived there long enough to affect my speech — but given the number of Rust Belt transplants there it kind of tracks.

When I worked at McDonald’s in high school I would make a couple of triple or even quadruple cheeseburgers at the end of my shift. I think I got this.
Well, I *am* hungry…

Make your favorite film sound as boring as possible without giving away the title: Humphrey Bogart reluctantly gets involved in the admin regarding an associate’s immigration issues.
OK I just realized the post I quoted was a joke I didn’t get because I hadn’t seen the discourse he was making fun of. Leaving it up in case anyone wants to snicker at my earnest dumbassery.
Performative y’all has got to be more common. Youse is up there with ain’t as one of the most heavily stigmatized words in American English. But you hear people who definitely didn’t grow up saying y’all use it all the time even in professional settings.

Really hate this performative "youse" people use to appear more like large hired goons
A friend of mine who’s 100% Italian was confused when his Ancestry test showed some Greek, Arab, Spanish, etc. Had to explain to him that’s how all our test results look. People have been trading, raiding and screwing across the Mediterranean for thousands of years, we’re all related.
There is a whole look of people from around the Mediterranean. If you took some old Mediterranean men and put them in a coffee shop to yell about soccer you wouldn’t be able to tell their ethnicity unless you heard what language they were insulting the players in.
I know it’s only preseason but why would you continue showing us a sideline interview and not the touchdown that happened while you were talking?
It’s true that she stayed out of making explicitly partisan statements or endorsements but I don’t think it’s much of a leap to look at the causes she supported and draw some conclusions about her leanings based on that.
After Dolly Parton's death was announced on Tuesday, tributes poured in from MAGA-aligned officials, progressive power brokers and partisans who fall somewhere in between, demonstrating the success of the singer’s long-running effort to stay out of party politics in a sharply divided country.
I’ve never heard of a jail that serves candy and chips as their normal meals, if he’s worried about scurvy he should stop wasting money at the commissary and eat what they give him.
Tristan Tate, the “manosphere” influencer accused of sex crimes in the United Kingdom, makes a surprise appearance on the witness stand, telling a judge he’s not his outrageous online personality in real life.
This episode bothered me because Patton’s last shit on American soil was probably near El Paso. I know the show played it fast and loose with Arlen’s location — somehow it was an easy drive to both Dallas and the Mexican border — but it was clearly not in West Texas.
This contestant on Guy’s Grocery Games who’s making a burger with a tortilla thinks he just invented something new he’s calling a “burger-rito.” I should pitch that to some restaurants here see if anyone’s thought of it.
Talking about the Gulf War in school. The conversation turned to if you have veterans in your families, most kids were saying World War II or Vietnam. Then one girl said “my dad was in all the wars.” I was confused because even at 5 I knew the Revolution was too long ago for the math to work.

This is how I felt when The Place Beyond the Pines came out.
My only How I Met Your Mother take is that I'm happy that it gave a cultural touchstone for where my hometown is to my generation. When I tell people under 65 that I'm from Lake Wobegon they look at me like I'm insane.
I never got this logic. I go to a food truck if I’m on the go, I go to a restaurant when I’m looking to sit down and eat. There’s a bit of overlap — I guess fast food and more takeout-oriented restaurants compete with food trucks more — but overall they fill different niches for me at least.

A few years ago I had to edit a business brief about Bank of America written by an older gentleman who’s probably not up on his memes that abbreviated it as BofA repeatedly. Part of me wanted to leave it in.
Props to the kid on the Bank of America marketing team who pitched this to the bosses with a straight face

i will take any opportunity to talk about French military MREs. i would destroy some saute of rabbit and a chunk of vinogel
French troops require wine or else they won't fight. The problem with wine is that glass bottles break and steel cans leak when hit by shrapnel and fouled the flavor. So they invented Vinogel, a 3x solid wine concentrate made with pectin that could be reconstituted or eaten.

I didn’t like Kill Bill at all the first time I saw it. I’ve grown to appreciate the artistry but I still find it a lot less fun than most of Tarantino’s movies.
Whats a movie everyone fucking loves that you despise? It doesnt have to be objectively bad, you just objectively DID NOT. Heres one for me since Ive been on a Barbara Loden kick lately-
One thing I noticed quickly after becoming an editor in a town with a big arts scene is how annoying common theatre still is in American English. Maybe people think it’s more sophisticated.

A 11X great grandfather of mine was hanged for sodomy. It’s unclear if he was killed for being gay or if he was actually a pedophile — the claims in the surviving court records are nonsensical — so either he’s one of my most tragic ancestors or one of the worst.
