Close enough. I was surprised to see Phoenix as my third match — I don’t think I lived there long enough to affect my speech — but given the number of Rust Belt transplants there it kind of tracks.

Performative y’all has got to be more common. Youse is up there with ain’t as one of the most heavily stigmatized words in American English. But you hear people who definitely didn’t grow up saying y’all use it all the time even in professional settings.

A friend of mine who’s 100% Italian was confused when his Ancestry test showed some Greek, Arab, Spanish, etc. Had to explain to him that’s how all our test results look. People have been trading, raiding and screwing across the Mediterranean for thousands of years, we’re all related.

There is a whole look of people from around the Mediterranean. If you took some old Mediterranean men and put them in a coffee shop to yell about soccer you wouldn’t be able to tell their ethnicity unless you heard what language they were insulting the players in.

It’s true that she stayed out of making explicitly partisan statements or endorsements but I don’t think it’s much of a leap to look at the causes she supported and draw some conclusions about her leanings based on that.

French troops require wine or else they won't fight. The problem with wine is that glass bottles break and steel cans leak when hit by shrapnel and fouled the flavor. So they invented Vinogel, a 3x solid wine concentrate made with pectin that could be reconstituted or eaten.

A 25kg plastic jug of Vinogel, by virtue of being solid, even if the container broke, the substance would not leak and it was shelf stable so could be transported in ultra-light plastic.
