Fact Friday: the unseen apex predators of Proxy – the Arborvenators – are named in honour of my favourite dinosaur, Australovenator. The reader on Discord who referred to them as “tree velociraptors” wasn’t too far off.

Fact Friday: In my very first draft of Stars Apart, Tanya’s name was originally spelled Tania. I changed it after deciding on Nadalia’s name, to avoid them looking and sounding too similar.

I have dozens of unfinished story drafts, going back decades. Some handwritten, some typed, some I even submitted to publishers, but none that I was truly satisfied with. But I don’t regret the time I spent on it all. My writing wouldn’t be what it is today without all of those practice runs.

As much as I bemoan the fact that it took almost nine years for Stars Apart to be published, there were benefits to the long wait. It gave me time to outline future instalments, and add concepts to the first book to set up later plot points. I can’t wait to share this crazy universe with readers.

With the official cover reveal long behind us, I thought it would be fun to share the first early concept I threw together. The design has come a long way since this…

Work on Stars Apart began 3195 days, 22 hours, and 46 minutes ago, on the evening of September 1, 2017. A dozen rejections, one contract, and well over 400 hours of editing time later, I finally have the completed novel in my hands. What a journey it’s been... and it's not over yet.

Winter is coming. Time for new (thematically relevant to my book) socks.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of sharing stories with the world. I’ve always wanted to give to my readers what other authors gave to me… an escape, an outlet, something that lingers long after the book has been closed. I guess I’ll find out soon enough if I managed that.
