A united city standing together against racism 🫂 We're bringing a council motion tomorrow to reaffirm our role as a city of sanctuary, request the government provide safe + legal routes for those seeking asylum, and work with the police and community leaders to fight hatred wherever it may appear.
We're bringing a motion to council tomorrow to end the bulky item collection charge 🗑 Council data tells us working class communities have higher levels of litter and fly-tipping, so we want to find out if the bulky item collection charge is part of the problem!
Results from the Council's "Big Conversation" survey are back 🗣️👂 The report says "The top requirement is clear: cleaner, safer and tidier public spaces" 🚮 We're bringing proposals to help reduce fly-tipping to tomorrow night's Council meeting. 🚀 Link in reply 👇
That’s the first Cabinet meeting of the new municipal year done, and my first opportunity to put questions to the new administration on behalf of Newcastle residents and @nclgreenparty.bsky.social. As a cooperative opposition, we’re focused on people and city before party, pushing for better.
Today, the Pride flag was raised at the Civic Centre, celebrating Pride Month and our city's LGBTQ+ communities. We're proud to stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ people this Pride Month and every month. 🏳️🌈 Happy Pride, Newcastle!
On Saturday the far right racists of ‘Unite the Right’ are coming to our city with their message of hatred and division. Our city is a diverse and tolerant city of sanctuary where we offer support to welcome those in need and a culture of inclusivity, solidarity and compassion.
As @nickhartleygreen.bsky.social says, we knew it was important to be grown ups and put people before party politics. The stability and cooperation agreement we've signed with the Liberal Democrats will ensure that we have good governance and get things done over this next year.
Yesterday showed exactly why Newcastle is turning to the Greens. Again and again in speeches, @nclgreenparty.bsky.social councillors were the ones standing up against inequality, speaking up for communities and pushing for a more hopeful, inclusive politics focused on people and planet.
