From someone using the Smoke Free app: they said that on the screen where you can put a photo to motivate you to stay quit, instead of the usual pic of kids, they put a pic of the inside of the ambulance that rushed them to A&E with a racing heart. Genius!

New modelling by @tcrgbath.bsky.social & @sarg-scharr.bsky.social shows the impact a polluter pays levy could have, raising up to £4.9 billion over 5 years💰 The modelling shows the policy could also prevent up to 10,000 hospital admissions & save almost 44,000 years of life over a 20 year period.

Combining a wholesale price cap with a tax rise could allow the government to pursue health goals by removing the [tobacco] industry’s ability to maintain affordable product ranges.

Over 140 health professionals have signed an open letter calling on the Government to develop a national plan to reduce smoking that prioritises action on mental health inequalities. The signatories include leaders from charities & royal colleges, senior clinicians, academics & health professionals🧠

The report calls on the Govt to publish a roadmap to a smokefree country with a plan to address smoking among people with poor mental health, alongside embedding stop smoking support into NHS Talking Therapies & a comms campaign to boost awareness of the links between smoking & poor mental health🚭

From the Challenge Group: Regular use of vapes or NRT during pregnancy does not appear to be associated with any adverse effects in mothers or their babies. If a pregnant woman chooses to vape and if that helps her to quit smoking and stay smokefree, she should be supported to do so.
