An astonishingly weak article by Cullinan, whose de-haut-en-bas plan for the Bayeux Tapestry delays is: "Let them wait longer" "This allows us to pause when queues have built and to give those with later bookings enough time to reach the tapestry" www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...

We’ve worked hard to ease your Bayeux Tapestry experience

An audio guide, clearer signs and extra seating will be added to prevent the overcrowding that visitors to the British Museum exhibition have suffered

Burnham so far: No 10 North Beer for football fans RC PM to appoint CoE bishops Help to buy Mansion tax Kills assisted dying "Enormity of Gaza"/ "stand with Israel" Starmerism diluted with moronic, ignorant bigotry

It's not only the obvious issues with the mansion tax itself, it's the vast multiplication of the valuation disputes that will inevitably ensue from lowering the threshold and fill the courts for years. A bonanza for surveyors and lawyers...probably a significant chunk of the revenue raised

It’s been two years, you’d hope that by now, Labour would realise that they are a government, not an opposition, and their criminal justice policy needs to be about, you know, reducing crime, not merely making positional announcements that have no meaning.

The BoE probably won't raise interest rates today. But that doesn't mean it isn't criminally negligent. Inflation is the biggest threat to wealth, to aspiration and to the triggers for the growth this country so desperately needs. Instead HMG will chase fool's growth

Dreadful result, brought about by a coalition of those who object on religious grounds (despite 1961 act) and those who want to blackmail govt into spending more on palliative care. There will never be enough money - and money doesn't solve all incurable suffering.

Still a lot of raw feeling among supporters about the assisted dying bill being voted down on Friday. Not much they can do about it for now, but interesting to see talk already of making further attempts to legalise it. International experience would suggest the debate will return before long.

A campaign for *MSF* to be banned as a terrorist group (on the paper thin basis of claims about 2 past employees) is the product of the UK Govt being willing to divorce any meaningful conception of societal threat from its use of proscription powers. Govt needs to wake up to the madness of this:

I don't know if AI will exterminate humanity, but it is already destroying our intellectual property. Every time it comes back with hallucination masquerading as fact, that is likely to find its way into the literature. The remorseless erosion of centuries of scholarship

Victor Klemperer, writing in 1933, seeing his friends starting to go to Palestine: “I cannot help myself, I sympathise with the Arabs who are in revolt there, whose land is being ‘bought’. A Red Indian fate, says Eva.”
