Only 25% voted in Greater Manchester Mayoral elections. This woeful turnout is a trend. Clearly little enthusiasm for City regional Mayors, who have thin democratic mandate. If Mayors are to receive more powers, then we need regional assemblies to deepen democractic accountability and scrutiny.
There is a buzzy cheerleading fraternity around the new UK Prime Minister, and a collective self satisfaction - 'we did it'! However, vaste swathes of the country are nonplussed. The PM needs to start emitting some detailed strategy, policies and plans to match the big change rhetoric.
Leading expert on Community Wealth Building, @neilmcinroy.bsky.social, will open the first in our ‘Championing The Local’ series. ‘Building Vibrant Local Economies’ will include practical advice for community groups on governance structures, benefiting the economy and wellbeing of communities.

The series is intended to help communities realise their ambitions and persuade local authorities of the part they can play in enhancing local economies.
