On overpasses, we literally stand over our messages, waving at passing cars, reminding everyday people that they are not alone in these unprecedented times. We deliver inspiration weekly with new messages commenting on the issues of our time. Our goal is to remind neighbors of our nation’s emergency and to suggest simple actions they can take. Volunteer Recruitment Training with NELC-I Outreach Team · NE Lake County IL Indivisible

NELC-Indivisible is building a movement! This training is for Indivisible volunteers who are tabling with the Outreach Team or willing to help us bring new volunteers to this movement. Training will cover how to talk to members of the public and your neighbors, including: - How to identify what will motivate them - Why taking action is important now - Moving people from ideation into action Register for location in Libertyville - a Zoom link is available to folks who choose to participate virtually. Registering on Mobilize is requested to ensure we have enough materials but not required! This meeting is in lieu of our usual 1st Sunday team meeting. How to organize your people: a training for white people on how to have hard conversations · Showing Up for Racial Justice

Have you ever had a conversation about racism or politics where you looked back and thought, “I wish I had kept my cool and dealt with that differently”? The good news is that navigating these conversations, staying grounded, and treating your loved one with dignity while agitating them towards a more just view of the world is a skill that you can learn. Right now, the stakes are much higher than simply changing your loved ones’ minds. Lives are on the line, and it’s white people’s role to step towards our communities– not away from them– and lean into these difficult conversations to stop the cycle of racism and bring more white people into movements for justice. Join Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), the largest national organization in the country that organizes white people for justice, for a training, “How to organize your people: a training for white people on how to have hard conversations.” Our leaders have decades of experience having these conversations and organizing white communities for justice. We’ll give you frame work, conversation tools, and opportunities to practice talking about difficult topics. It’s true you can’t change someone’s mind in one conversation. It’s also true that some people are so dug in they can’t hear anything else. And it’s also true that deep down most people share our values and want the same things we want– it’s on us to find that thread of connection, call out our common enemies, and invite people in to join us.
