Very happy/relieved to announce that we have finished moving the domain to a better DNS registrar for our needs, which should ensure that the short outage we had two weeks ago will never happen again. This should be the most exciting thing we will ever have to tell you about the DNS registrar.

Early this morning, we received an email from @namecheap.com that the domain neocities.org was being suspended because of a court order from New Delhi, India (a jurisdiction we don't operate in), which was for an unrelated court order about a sports streaming site on a different domain.
We're working on the DNS outage. It's not technical - someone is trying to legally attack us and Namecheap took down the domain. More details later.
Our upstream block storage is having issues, we're taking the front site down temporarily as a precaution. Will update this thread when things are running again.
Neocities is back next week on Tuesday night, May 19! Join us at .zip (Rotterdam) or at Sickhouse (Enschede) to work on your personal site. More info: zipspace.nl/agenda
Update on Bing: The block seems to have been removed! Sites are slowly starting to re-index. Special thanks to @ashleybelanger.bsky.social for this really helpful article and visibility. We now have a direct contact at Microsoft we're communicating with to see how this can be prevented again.
Neocities sites are slowwwwwly popping back up in Bing results, I'm told, but this remains one of the weirdest exchanges I've had with a tech company, where Microsoft admitted there was an issue but wouldn't connect directly to resolve it. arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...
Bing has blocked neocities and all user subdomains from its search index. We’ve spent months trying to resolve this through official channels and gotten nowhere. Until this gets resolved, we are recommending that people do not use Bing. Blog post with details: blog.neocities.org/blog/2026/01...

Today we launched a more robust cache purger that should reduce the number of rare/occasional "missed" site updates. It's been well tested, but when things change bugs can happen, so if a site file isn't updating let us know, and the usual apologies in advance for any issues related to this.
On Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, we'll be gathering in places around the world to write and celebrate HTML. Join us ❇️ html.energy/html-day/202...

FYI, WebDAV is currently not working, a fix is in progress. When we migrated to new code the old WebDAV code became deprecated, and it's kind of a crazy protocol so it's taking longer than expected. Apologies.
HEADS UP: in the next hour we're resetting all login sessions, so at some point everyone will be logged off and need to log back in. Be sure to save your work! If you get logged out with unsaved changes: open another tab to login, and then go back to the editor tab and saving will work again.

To clear things up from the earlier thread: - We introduced functionality to choose to deny AI crawlers using a new default robots.txt and to promise we will never force you to use AI on Neocities. - Generated low-quality content (AI or otherwise) is considered SPAM and has always been banned.
Wanted to talk about Neocities' approach to AI. First, some new positions going forward: - We will never make you use AI if you don't want to - We will help you stop AI crawlers if you want to - We won't use false positive heavy AI blockers - We won't be "anti-AI" either and ban sites for using it
