The local terf was at the empanada bar across from my preferref coffee haunt today. Kept giving me the murder smirk. I was packing up to leave when another trans girl bopped up, sat at terf's table, and started lore-dumping about all the work she's had done, what's to come, preferences, etc.

Sitting outside with an American Spirit Black enjoying the night. Difficultly level: I must be awake in seven hours, so I took my sleeping meds an hour ago and they're definitely noticeable. I don't recommend hanging out in a city at 3am on Ambien. But also it's pretty great.

It's ok. It made me fix things that needed facing. I became a one-woman band. I built a race car in my garage and got into motorsports. I wandered with a camera and documented my own little Hades I was exiled to. But I miss other people. They were taken from me. And that still hurts.

Being a relatively early transitioner who's pushing 50 is a lonely affair. Not casting aspersions on trans women my age who started later in life, to be clear. But I feel like there aren't a whole lot of us around, period. All the girls I knew back in the day are gone.

On the plus side, I spent hours in deep conversation with a total stranger over coffee tonight. Talked with a bunch more. I've always loved the energy in Dubuque. It's unlike Wisconsin or the flat parts of Iowa. I've been coming here for 12 years now. Mostly to just have a coffee and wander.
