🏫 ⚽ Going back to school means fall sports and recreational activities are going to start soon – so, it’s the perfect time to talk about #concussion prevention.

📚💡Back to School is almost here! Did you know that your child DOES NOT have to be symptom-free to return to school following a #concussion? It is ok for concussion symptoms to mildly and briefly worsen with activity as kids return to school.
👧 🧠 Concussion risks change as children grow.
Taking care of your basic needs is essential to your recovery following a #concussion. ✅ DO focus on managing your concussion symptoms and getting back to your regular activities.
❗What you do in the first few days following a #concussion is important. In the past, patients were told to have absolute rest. Current evidence, however, suggests that light and cautious activity, with rest as needed, can be part of the recovery process.
The Canadian Clinical Practice Guideline for the Rehabilitation of Adults with Moderate to Severe #TraumaticBrainInjury (TBI) brings together evidence-based recommendations across 21 chapters, covering key components of rehabilitation and assessment and rehabilitation of brain injury sequelae.
Happy #InternationalSelfCareDay! ⭐ Self-care is an important part of recovery after a #TraumaticBrainInjury (TBI) and #SpinalCordInjury (SCI). 💡Your Homework: Find something you enjoy doing as part of your self-care journey. Complete the self-care bingo below!
A fall. A car accident. A sports injury. A workplace accident. In an instant, life can change – for you, your family, and your friends. A #TraumaticBrainInjury (TBI) can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. It can affect your everyday life, from how you think, feel, communicate, and move.
❗Where you live should not determine the care and rehabilitation you receive. Every individual with #TraumaticBrainInjury (TBI) or #SpinalCordInjury (SCI) deserves timely access to high-quality care and rehabilitation.
June is #NationalMigraineandHeadacheAwarenessMonth! People with TBI can suffer from pain/headaches immediately following their injury & throughout their recovery. Pain and headaches can have a negative effect on recovery - thereby, making proper assessment & management of pain/headaches essential.
🧠 June is #BrainInjuryAwarenessMonth! Falls are the leading cause of #TraumaticBrainInjury (TBI) – responsible for ~ 30% of concussions and 72% of mod-severe TBIs across Ontario.
🧠 June 27 was #PTSDAwarenessDay! While brain injury & PTSD are unique conditions, they share similar symptom profiles, including difficulties with memory, sleep & mood. This overlap can complicate assessment, diagnosis & rehabilitation, thereby highlighting the importance of trauma-informed care.
🧡 June is #NationalIndigenousHistoryMonth – a time to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, contributions, and resilience of Indigenous Peoples across Canada.
🧠 June is #BrainInjuryAwarenessMonth! Do you know about your local brain injury association? Local brain injury associations amplify the voices of individuals with brain injury and provide meaningful programs, such as peer support groups and community-based services.
💡 💙 Today is #ActionAnxietyDay! Anxiety is one of the most common mental health challenges experienced after a #traumaticbraininjury (TBI). Feelings of worry, fear, and uncertainty can affect recovery, relationships, and overall quality of life.
🧠 June is #BrainInjuryAwarenessMonth! @ontariobia.bsky.social has launched a flag-raising initiative to increase awareness of #braininjury, spark meaningful conversations, and encourage communities across Ontario to better recognize and respond to the needs of individuals living with brain injury.
May is #VisionHealthMonth! TBI can result in sensory impairments affecting vision, perception, sensation & balance. Individuals with TBI should be screened for visual impairment and/or perceptual deficits and should undergo rehabilitation if needed. kite-uhn.com/brain-injury...
