So, assume we somehow create a super-intelligent machine sentence, without ethical dilemmas. And it sympathetically offers to help solve our problems. I’m pretty sure the exchange will sound like the bit in the Principia Discordia where Mal cries out to the goddess Eris about the ills in the world.

Sam Lantinga wrote a lot of vanilla World of Warcraft, has been at Valve since 2012 working on their Linux/ARM initiatives, and apparently ALSO wrote SDL and SDL2? never has so much rested on the shoulders of one man. does your game have graphics or audio? or run on hardware? thank Sam.

I don't have any great insight to the fall of Kier Starmer, but I will say I that from here across the pond it appeared he had all the charisma and effective legislative force of a wet saltine cracker

One of the reasons I think people keep pushing the idea that authors want AI is that these people are convinced that authors write books so that they can sell books. More books means more sales, right? Whereas most authors take the stance that they mainly sell books so that they can write books.

I keep seeing "all authors use AI, the real issue is they're being forced to be sneaky about it" headlines. Full stop No. This is a lie peddled for normalization. It's schoolyard-level pressure tactics "C'mon, all the cool kids are already doing it. We won't tell. It's fine. We're on your side."

I do still teach my students about the format, but increasingly I’m presenting survival context and I’ve always made it clear that it shouldn’t a template. I also had a great time over winter break with Maria Tatar’s “The Heroine with a 1001 Faces,” which brings out this quote almost immediately.

Joseph Campbell to Maureen Murdock, one of his students, in 1983 about women heroes: “Women don’t need to make the journey. In the whole mythological journey, the woman is there. All she has to do is realize that she’s the place that people are trying to get to…” Part 2 of this quote is worse:

The talk lately about Newsom brings me back to when the big question was, should Biden run for a second term? Because, all the concerns about him doing so were real, but who did the Ds have that they should run instead? Newsom was high on my list of people who weren’t really good choices.

None of this is okay. I do not care for Nicolas Maduro and think he is bad for Venezuela and his people. That is still not a justification to attack a sovereign nation and kidnap its leader. Nothing is. May the gods have mercy on us.
