Horses were recently spotted being used by Russia in its invasion of Ukraine. This is a move of desperation as roads crumble and fuel becomes scarce. Ukraine currently has the privilege of rescuing them and using them in a therapeutic role instead of a combat one.

Polish cavalry mainly served as scouts for the infantry. By WWII few of them actually fought on horseback, acting mainly as a rapid-response force. Their last cavalry charge against the Nazis was a part of a combined effort with Soviet forces in modern-day Ε»eΕsko in 1945.

Most bedouin wore a mix of British and Turkish kit during the Great Arab Revolt, with the regalia mainly being used for photoshoots. But, the keffiyah was common among the rebels and their foreign officers, and Arabs would later adopt the ordinary scarf as a national icon.

American settlers would routinely break treaties between the First Nations and the US, and the cavalry took it upon themselves to violently put down any indigenous attempt to enforce their treaties. They played a crucial part in the genocide of countless indigenous peoples.

Pastoralist culture adopted after the Reconquista (due to the destruction of water management resources in the Iberian Peninsula) saw a renaissance in parts of South and North America. Many enslaved people used the tools trusted to them by their masters to emancipate themselves.

Different European powers would often pitch indigenous nations against one another, sometimes explicitly incorporating them into their colonial armies. Even these veterans became the victims of the colonial projects they served.

In the early 1500s, European states reinvested many of their imperial gains into centrally organized state militaries. The winged hussars were a mercenary band put on a permanent line item in the state budget, which soon began to recruit local Polish nobles out of convenience.
