The headlines behind the frontlines: NOTW pod, hosted by Andy and Merryn. We take a look at the stories being read by the public during the war. 6 random dates every year of the war. https://linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar

I don't suppose anyone who follows me on here will be going to Russia anytime soon. I know I won't but I did visit the amazing Museum of the Siege of Leningrad in St Petersburg some years ago. It isn't on any of the normal tours but highly recommended. Grim? Oh yes. Should be compulsory.

Quite hard to like David Stirling, in this weeks SAS special we picked up a letter written in the 70s, reacting to Stirlings gang GB75. Essentially a military coup if Stirling and his cronies lifestyles were threatened. Adam Curtis covered it in his Mayfair Set film. linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar

🚨 Well, here we go - Who Shares Wins, eh. Our very own rogue zeroes, @andyaitch.bsky.social and @merrynwalters.uk , bring you this special episode on the Special Air Service. What appeared in the newspapers 1939 to 1945. What didn't - and why. You'll only find this in the #NewsoftheWar!

We land on Rommel this week. Inevitable really. It’s interesting to see in the papers just when the legends any myths around him start. He looms large in the articles from 1941 onwards. Listen to how they came across in @newsofthewar.bsky.social pod. linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar

🚨 Welcome to the News of the War! In this, the fifth in our 6-part series on Generalissimos, it's the turn of Erwin Rommel - the Desert Fox himself. @andyaitch.bsky.social @merrynwalters.uk

Naughty, naughty, George. General George S Patton speaks at a Boston war bond drive. Joking of course about the malingerers in army field hospitals… some of whom he “interacted” with personally. New ep, Patton, out today. linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar

Utter scandal in the #NewsoftheWar — the infamous "slapping incidents." Patton nearly slapped himself clean out of a command, and the British press followed every twist with barely-disguised glee.

Strong contender for history’s most contemptible little shitebags, we bring you the second ep of our Generalissimo series: Hideki Tojo. Oh to be able to slap that heed of his. linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar

In this week's #NewsoftheWar, it became clear that the newspapers weren't sure what to say about Tojo in the early days. But as news reached Britain from the far east, opinions settled on despot and dastardly being useful descriptions. linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar

Join us, for our first episode in our Generalissimos series. To kick us off we have Marshal Pietro Badoglio - a nasty little shitbag if ever I saw one. Find us here: linktr.ee/NewsOfTheWar
