Moss

Place your hand upon the rock:
feel the cold,

caress the moss that clings to it.

then warmth again on the other side.

sing sweet birdsong.

Deep breath, relax your limbs.
Stand up, feel the algae between your toes
and then climb out
and dry your skin.

Now look to the sky;
crane your neck to see past the leaves
towards the birds, now left their perch
to soar above, to soar beyond
whilst you are grounded here.

the setting sun further than that.
Be here in this place;
be where you’ll be next.

Escape
