If the portal gun existed in real life and you put two portals on the ceiling and stood under one of them, would you get pulled up and into the portal to fall out the other one?

Wait Oliver Tree is _actually_ dead? I genuinely thought he was pulling a stunt. But now Wikipedia has been updated and there are actual news reports about it...

trowbridge-reitz/ggx models the distribution of micro-normals within a surface patch as if the patch was part of a perfectly reflective ellipsoid. alpha controls how squished the ellipsoid is: zero alpha = no curvature at all (degenerates into flat disc) so all micro-normals are oriented the same.

only difference between these two images is the tone mapper. First one is Khronos PBR neutral. Second is ACES filmic. Entire quad has the same roughness value. But you wouldn't think that, looking at the khronos tonemapper 😅

great, VVL silently crash when initialized by a DLL loaded from blender. pretty sure this is a new behavior too, this didn't happen on an older vulkan sdk. thank god for windbg, this could have turned into a multi hour wild goose chase...

New blog post! In "Quantizing tangent frames", we look at various established methods to represent tangent frames in the vertex data, squeeze a few variants into 32 bits per vertex and look at the resulting precision. zeux.io/2026/04/30/q... Share, like and subscribe!

Quantizing tangent frames

I’ve been working on tangent space generation recently, and also pondering the tradeoffs between QTangent and normal-angle storage. So when, in a completely unrelated discussion, someone said “you cou...

i am surprised at the reception of pragmata. from the moment i saw the trailer i was viscerally repulsed by the child-shaped robot. well, back then i didn't realize it was supposed to be a robot, since kids in videogames often look uncanny anyway. knowing it is in fact a robot gives 10x the ick.

while prepping that spherical harmonics post i was going through some of the old books on analysis and differential equations and the whole process reminded me just how much i miss my time at the university.
