BIG: Kansas just rejected a ballot measure that would have required state Supreme Court justices to be elected rather than appointed by the governor — dealing another setback to Republicans trying to overturn a decision that established a constitutional right to abortion.

Todd Blanche made more promises during a private call that a faith group inexplicably uploaded to YouTube. Expect to see this story cited in lawsuits against the FDA when it ends telemedicine of mifepristone for no reason other than pills by mail make anti-abortion groups very mad

NEW: Amid AG confirmation battle, Todd Blanche assured anti-abortion activists that he's working to make Dobbs 'permanent in every single state.' Admin will act 'soon' to limit mail-order abortion drugs. w/ @alicemiranda.bsky.social www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

In a conference call hosted by the White House Faith Office on July 30 with thousands of religious leaders around the country, Blanche said he was committed to achieving policy solutions so that the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision “becomes permanent in every single state.”

The recording of Blanche's call with faith leaders hosted by the White House Faith Office was still live as of a few hours ago, but has since been taken down.

Republicans attack people who live in cities as not "real" Americans. They attack gay parents as not "real" families. They attack atheists and the nonreligious as having no "real" morals or ethics. So this isn't particularly surprising. Now we need Democrats to stop buying into that framing.

Fun fact: I just published the full story on this topic mere minutes ago. By my count, at least 12 pastors, seminarians & former clergy have launched campaigns for federal office this year, and 5 are already nominees. In response, the GOP is attacking their faith. religionnews.com/2026/08/04/p...

Ever wonder the difference between atheists & humanists? Well, Fish & Fish (Nick Fish of American Atheists & Fish Stark of American Humanist Association) join us for our 25th episode of How to Humanist to lay it all out on the similarities, the differences, and the overlap. Tune in!

A Mormon Border Patrol agent sexually abused all 6 of his children for years. He confessed as much to his bishop, who did not report it. Instead the bishop told the wife ... who was later sentenced to jail for not reporting it. The bishop? The AZ Supreme Court says he did nothing wrong.

Arizona Supreme Court: clergy don't have to report child abuse

RFK Jr has no training in any scientific field. He's a history major who got a law degree and worked as an environmental advocate but has never spent any meaningful time doing science, or understanding how science is done. This isn't "an alternative scientific view". It's just kooky opinions.

BASH: The WSJ reported the president is pressuring you to conduct studies probing the link between vaccines and autism. Is that true? RFK Jr: Did you say 'probing the link'? BASH: I'm just quoting the Wall Street Journal RFK Jr: He certainly does

LO — and I can't stress this enough — L. Ya know, I'm beginning to think the MAGA movement's vision of "religious freedom" is "freedom for white evangelicals to do whatever" and violent retribution for everyone else. If only there was a term for that...

NEW: Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, facing ethics inquiries for misconduct, has threatened to strip state scholarships from Catholic schools unless the Church rewrites its vaccine doctrine. It is an unprecedented attack by an American state on the religious liberty of the Catholic Church.

For about a month last year, every single time I checked Facebook, every 4th post was AI slop cooking content with generated images and incoherent "recipes." There was no category for reporting it and every interaction with the posts only fueled their algorithm to serve up more of it.

As part of a series of updates to reduce the volume of AI slop on the platform, LinkedIn is introducing an actual button that lets you flag a post as something that “Seems like AI slop.”

The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.

One of the worst things about the Senate’s attempted Fauci show trial is how the supposed evidence against him is early in COVID he considered multiple hypotheses, then increasingly ruled some unlikely as evidence came in. The objection is he did science. Fundamentally that is what’s under attack.

May 2025 story in the AP: Elon Musk says he will cut back on political spending after heavily backing Trump in 2024

WASHINGTON (AP) — Elon Musk, the richest person in the world and a key financial supporter of President Donald Trump, said Tuesday that he’ll be spending “a lot less” on political campaigns, a reversal that could be a setback for Republicans ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
