Atlantic puffins are perhaps the most sought-after birds at Bempton. Around 4,000 breeding pairs are thought to use the cliffs and surrounding coastline. Unlike many puffin colonies, where birds nest in burrows, Bempton's puffins often use rock crevices in the chalk cliffs.

Razorbills share many of the same ledges as the Puffins and identified by their deep black plumage and thick, blunt bills marked with a distinctive white line. They form strong pair bonds and perform courtship displays involving bowing, bill-touching and mutual grooming.
