It is not hard to see that we are going to have to reckon with the impossibility of living in a time of artificial food systems, artificial relationships, artificial leaders, and artificial intelligence. We are animals running terrible software on 10,000 year old hardware.

In sum, the United States was not founded as a democracy, has not been a democracy for the majority of its existence, suffers very severe democratic deficits today, and has a long record of preventing, undermining and even destroying democratic governments abroad.

The US famously orchestrated coups or assassinations against democratically elected leaders such as Salvador Allende in Chile, Jacobo Arbenz in Guatemala, and Patrice Lumumba in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, all of whom were replaced by US-backed dictators.
