Music fan. UK science teacher in an FFP3 mask. The right mask makes it easy to sing, perform, teach, or speak in public. #N95 #FFP2 #FFP3 #YallMasking He/him
The other night my son tricked me. He used his phone to "introduce me to Jane Remover" (Bluetooth to the stereo). However, what he was REALLY doing was messaging his friend late into the night. I'm taking my revenge. Flash In The Pan (Jane Remover cover) #RevengeSeekerz
I'm on holiday - this is a borrowed guitar. No mask - that wouldn't be fair to the guitar, or the owner. This is the last song I wrote before the pandemic started. Soon, I'll discuss whether anyone has written any “post-pandemic music”. Bedtime Story (original)
Every time there's a "COVID lab leak" story I relax - everybody knows that I have absolutely nothing relevant to say on this issue. Today is one of those #InBetweenDays In Between Days / Friday I'm In Love (Cure covers) #CovidIsNotOver #Cure #CureCover #FridayImInLove
I have experience of losing. It's one of the reasons I can do this. Wonderwall (Oasis cover) 🏴 #ComeOnEngland #ItsComingFourth #SaltingTheVibes #YallMasking #MaskUp #CovidIsAirborne #CovidIsNotOver #CleanAir
My children wear masks like this in school. It's the last day of their school year. After school, they are going out with their friends. Can you guess what they are going to do? #PPEScandal
It's coming home. Last weekend, CC musicians got together with the deliberate intention to play "the most depressing songs". This was one of my choices. Did I choose correctly? 3 Lions (by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds) #ItsComingHome #ComeOnEngland 🏴
It would be surprising if the world of men's professional football were to mention the word “COVID” out loud. They've been able to keep something else secret really effectively for years. But I still believe. 3 Lions (by Baddiel, Skinner and the Lightning Seeds)
4th July - 250 If you are CC and want to get together on the 4th July to celebrate great music from the USA, get in touch. My Oklahoma Home Blowed Away (Sis & Bill Cunningham / Pete Seeger cover) #YallMasking
I know you like photos of me marking. I've been teaching for quite a while. In earlier threads I've written about big changes in education in that time. One really obvious positive change is that schools in the UK now celebrate LGBTQ+ rights. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 A #Pride🧵
If you live in the UK, and you are struggling with the heat, have you considered using "denial"? "The sun is cold now." "I don't believe in the sun." I Don't Believe In The Sun (Magnetic Fields cover)
Today is #GlobalBeatlesDay CC musicians will be getting together this weekend to play Beatles songs. We did around 15% of the catalogue last year. Get in touch if you want to join us. Penny Lane (Beatles cover) #YallMasking #SaltingTheVibes #CovidIsNotOver #AllYouNeedIsLove
It was hot today, and since my sons are wearing their PE kits in school, I borrowed my son's short-sleeved shirt. What do you think? #Pride #SchoolUniform 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
#GlobalBeatlesDay This is my new guitar, named "Miles". This weekend Miles will be playing Beatles songs to a global audience - between 100 miles and 11'000 miles away. This is the first Beatles song Miles has played. It's All Too Much (Beatles cover) #CovidIsNotOver
To commiserate 10 Years since the Brexit Vote that, amongst other things, made guitars more expensive, I'm going all around the UK for great music.🧵 First, Northern Ireland. Girl From Mars (Ash cover) What music from Northern Ireland do you recommend? #TenYearsOfBrexit
Celebrating Summer Solstice! Stonehenge (Spın̈al Tap cover)
It was hot today! The first thing the boys and I did when we got home from school was jump in the shower. My mask lines are still visible afterwards. Theirs fade much more quickly. #MaskUp #YallMasking #SaltingTheVibes #CovidIsNotOver
When my children were born, we had the right to live and work in other European countries. 10 years ago, a vote took that away. Now my children's right to privacy is being taken away. And mine. No to digital ID. Rejoin the EU. Straßengeist (Fade Out) (Radiohead cover)
My children use YouTube to find out about awful, unlistenable music like Jane Remover. Their favourite YouTuber for music recommendations is @theneedledropnews.bsky.social You try to show them the way as a parent, but they tread their own path. Should we ban kids from social media?
I'm a not-very-good guitarist. Long before the pandemic, online platforms allowed me to meet other musicians and get lots of practise. I got a bit better. Only a bit. If social media had existed when I was a child, I'd be a better musician. Don't ban kids from social media.
Under 16s in the UK will not be able to use YouTube to help them learn to play musical instruments. Auguries Of Innocence (William Blake)
Harry Styles is playing a 12 night residency at Wembley. The sums involved are staggering. £1.2 billion overall. Fans spending £1000 each. Does this matter? I presume Harry won't be using the tens of millions he will make to fund the far-right. As It Was (Harry Styles cover)
My son has just come home with his first 7" single. It's 2026. #SevenInchSinglesAreNotOver #VinylIsNotOver
Great news! COVID rates are low. Is it time to give up taking precautions? A🧵about Long COVID and “giving up”. Never Gonna Give You Up (Rick Astley cover)
It's great news that rates of COVID are low right now. It would be wonderful if it were possible to be -- happy -- in response. Unfortunately, it's still necessary to be cautious, and guarded.🧵 Happy (Pharrell Williams cover)
I wear a mask because I know that Long COVID is caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. Demons (Super Furry Animals cover)
This week, people who have been abandoned, neglected, or have "fallen by the wayside" have been attacked. Thank you to those who have pointed out, eloquently, that attacking people in poor health is a way to distract from the real issue. By The Wayside (Slim Francis cover)
I'm planning on paying for COVID vaccinations for my family next weekend.
🧵A Covid thread - but a good news one! I’m barely writing about Covid anymore because there is barely any Covid to write about. I thought it was worth celebrating this in this thread. 1/7
I wear a mask for several reasons. One of them is that we can reasonably expect positive developments in other areas - clean air, vaccines, better testing, far-UVC. I'm not an expert on any of these things, but I do know that understanding of disease can improve over time.
