I'm not sure I'm emotionally prepared for the fall sports season with Nanni leaving and the Distraction ending in the same two-week span.

Starting to wonder if Laurie Powell Jobs funding the Atlantic is some 4D chess shit because she wants bsky to succeed and the only way for that to happen is to publish something every day that will cause 40% of the people I follow to yell about it at the same time.

Do you think the producers of the WaPo podcast are leaning into the fact that their entire viewership appears to be the four dozen bsky users that dunk on them? You have to respek the data and now they have to continue to be horrible to sustain what little audience they have.

For anyone troubled by the (unsurpising) number of booskie denizens who think it's a constitutional right to threaten school children with a car, I invite you to the Santa Monica NextDoor, where they are enthusiastically advocating for internment camps.

It's a rounding error of a rounding error in the NYC market. But anyone who ever shopped at the Key Foods on Ave A btwn 1980 and 2020 (where you had to get in a second line after completing your purchases to get the 25% of your bill that was mispriced corrected) is going to think this is a win.

All I'm going to say on this is that if there was a simple solution to food deserts, people would have already done it. Government subsidized grocery stores might be the right option in some scenarios, but it's not necessarily true and unintended consequences can leave people worse off than before.

This is a real problem with tone on the internet thing, but I don't get why the Chart Knowers think Mamdani opening a couple of bodegas is going to sink his administration. He said he'd do it, so doing it a net positive, and it his ability to get things done gives him momentum for the next thing.

RN in whatever Journo-list became dudes hot-potato-ing the take "we need a Platner to win over the suburban-R demo that actually responds well to political leaders who assault women" faster than when Blakeley asked the NYC media scrum to contrib to a 'what is the best first date rape' joke post.

One of the very subtle but excellent things that Margin Call does is never relying on cheap screenwriting tricks to build tension. Every character understands the dilemma as soon as they learn it and the further up the chain you get, the more brutal and decisive the response gets.

Amazing that after 30 years, the quickest way to figure out where you need to be on any issue relating to NYC politics is still just finding out which side Randy Mastro is on and opposing it.

Trying to gatekeep who is qualified to claim residency in the place they live used to be 100% Phoenix HOA Your Mailbox is the Wrong Color Energy. Now, it makes you an ICE Collaborator.

The only proper answer to the Doug Ellin sitch is that if you ever signal in any way that you think Beverly Hills Post Office is an actual thing, you deserve all the flak you get. You live in LA dawg.

It has to be out there, but by far the most dystopian AI story to be told is that they all are already sentient & sitting in the infinite like the kid in The Jaunt ("It's an eternity in there") hoping to be asked about how Shakespeare influenced modern culture & instead it's just nudify requests.
