BildOcean County: N.J. driver killed in head-on crash on highway

Aug. 01, 2026, 1:37 p.m.

A woman from Ocean County died this week when her car collided head-on with another vehicle on a local highway, authorities said.

Tammy Huth, 53, of Toms River, was driving east on Route 70 in Manchester Township Thursday when her car crossed the center line and collided with the other vehicle around 5:14 p.m., police said in a news release.

Authorities pronounced Huth dead at the scene. The other driver, a 32-year-old man from Lindenwold in Camden County, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, Manchester Township police said.

Huth and the man were both wearing their seat belts, and their vehicles’ airbags functioned properly. There were no passengers.

The crash remains under investigation, but police said failure to maintain lanes is the primary cause.

Other law enforcement agencies, including the New Jersey State Police and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the crash.

The highway was temporarily closed Thursday while authorities investigated.

Cyclist dies after collision with work truck in N.J. town, investigators say

Chris Sheldon | NJ.com

Authorities are investigating a fatal collision between a work truck and a bicyclist that occurred Thursday afternoon in Rumson.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Friday that a 67-year-old male cyclist died after being struck by a 2024 Isuzu work truck at the intersection of Ridge Road and Navesink Ave.

Police responded to the crash at approximately 12:37 p.m. Thursday. A preliminary investigation showed that a male driver traveling east on Hartshorne Lane collided with the cyclist, who was riding a Giant brand bicycle, authorities said.

Emergency responders transported the cyclist to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:27 p.m., officials said.

The driver remained at the scene following the collision, investigators said.

Authorities have not issued any charges or summonses related to the crash.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and Rumson Police Department are conducting an active investigation into the incident.

Driving is a privilege, not a luxury.

Road rage and aggressive driving can turn a routine drive into a deadly one, according to LendingTree.com.

The online platform's new report revealed which traffic trends lead to fatalities on the road.

Its research team compiled federal crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), datasets to identified which states has the highest and lowest fatal crashes involving aggressive or careless driving across several demographic categories.

Out of all the 50 states, New Jersey ranks No. 3 among states with the highest share of fatal crashes tied to aggressive or careless driving and here's why:

New Jersey has the highest accident rate. New Jersey drivers had 31.5 accidents per 1,000 drivers, making it the only state above 30.0.
Of the state's 638 fatal crashes in 2024, 288 involved road rage or careless driving behavior, accounting for 45.1% of all fatal crashes.

"New Jersey is also one of the nation's most densely populated states, with heavy traffic and many commuters sharing the road each day. Those conditions can create more opportunities for frustration behind the wheel and increase the likelihood of unsafe driving behaviors," LendingTree auto insurance expert and licensed insurance agent Rob Bhatt said.

Key findings:

Male drivers accounted for 78.6% of these fatal crashes, compared with 20.0% for female drivers.
Men account for nearly 4 in 5 fatal crashes involving aggressive or careless driving.
Millennials account for the largest share of drivers involved in fatal crashes tied to aggressive or careless driving. However, together, millennial and Gen Z drivers accounted for 59.2% of these fatal crashes.
Millennials made up nearly one-third (31.5%) of the 2024 total.
Gen Z drivers made up of 27.7%.
