This is very funny, as I distinctly remember sitting in a 2019 meeting with the old WTOP GM as he talked about young families moving to the suburbs and all the reporters/editors in the room who had young families lived in the city (and, AFAIK, still do)

From the 730DC newsletter:

To Hill with the suburbs
While most major cities have become unaffordable and unlivable for families, between 2015 and 2024, DC has seen the number of children under 18 rise by 10%. During that period, families flocked to DC for well-paying jobs, and stayed in the city as universal pre-K grew, public school options improved, and suburbs became less affordable than the city. This increase in families is concentrated on higher income families; the population of families earning six figures rose by 37%, while those earning less than $100,000 decreased by 9%.

Was wondering why it was such a quiet and peaceful Monday in the office and was just told that Microsoft is having email client issues, which is why I haven’t gotten anything in the last two hours lol

Hats off to the woman who was barreling the wrong way up my one-way street as I was coming back home to park and who, after I pointed that out, launched into an obscenity-fueled rage at me. Happy Sunday!

One of my regrets from my time as the sports editor at WTOP was not getting to do a bigger feature with Natasha Cloud after covering her during the Mystics’ 2019 title run. She’s smart and magnetic, and not somebody you want to be on the other side of beef with

"For the next two minutes, Cloud detailed three issues impacting women that she believes deserve more attention than Freedom: domestic violence, sexual assault and food insecurity." www.nytimes.com/athletic/754...

An unspeakably bleak thing happened in my neighborhood tonight, and I’m not ready to share details, but our poor college kid neighbors are extremely shaken up. Just one of those moments where you want to try to help and also nothing you do feels like it will matter.

Growing up on the west coast, with nobody in my orbit who listened to country music, I didn’t have the kind of relationship that a lot of you did with Dolly Parton. She was always someone I was aware of, but who didn’t have any direct impact on my life. Until 3 years ago.

I don’t think a lot of people do. Meanwhile, the dollar was nearly level with the Euro in Jan. 2025 — now it’s at .86. It’s down 8% against the Yuan over the same time period. Your money is becoming worth less in the world market, every day

Do people know this? There's such a pervasive obsession in this country with how great the stock market is doing; I wonder how many people would be shocked to learn that the US stock market is being badly outperformed by the rest of the world, and that's a new thing since January 2025.
