After lunch, they were scheduled for a few hours at the spa, which Chloe had not been looking forward to. She never did this kind of thing herself, and the few times she’d been to one in the past had been because her mom insisted. It always felt so wasteful to her, and she had a hard time actually relaxing.

Lucifer, of course, embraced it wholeheartedly.

“Not a single word,” Chloe said as she emerged from the changing room in her robe and slippers. They were alone for the moment. She didn’t know what she’d been thinking, signing them up for this. It’d just seemed like such a typical thing to do at a resort that it pretty much checked itself.

And now she had to deal with being almost naked around Lucifer while getting a freaking couples massage.

“Whatever would I have to say besides how lovely you look?” Lucifer said, smirking. “I for one am extremely ready to be pampered with my partner.”

Yeah, he would be. “That’s exactly what I’m talking about.”

“Don’t be so grumpy,” he said. “This is a time of relaxation and bliss.”

She crossed her arms, trying to make sure the robe was very securely shut, and then dropped them immediately when she realized it was just drawing attention to her chest. Lucifer certainly noticed.

“If you’re not going to want me touching you, then we should probably request a different service now,” he said.

“Touching me? You can touch me. Casually,” she hissed, at the wicked little grin touching his lips. He was already opening his mouth to make some crack about it. “You already do it all the time.”

“Massages are different,” he said. “Much more… intimate.”

“Wait. Lucifer, you do know that a couple’s massage just means we get massages at the same time, right? You’re not giving me one.”

His grin dropped away immediately. “No?”

“No.”

Lucifer gets out of the cruiser, noting a couple of unis as they walk purposefully past him into the building. He turns, gaze softening when he takes in the Detective. She is especially lovely this morning with her hair down around her shoulders—an attempt he gleefully notes doesn’t do much to hide the marks he made—and a blouse in the perfect shade of blue to bring out her eyes.

He prowls around the front of the car, wanting to be closer to her, and brushes the back of his hand against hers before hooking his pinky around her fingers as they make their way to the door.

“None of this”—she motions at their hands—“when we get inside.”

“Not to worry, Detective,” he purrs. “You have made the rules clear.”

Glancing at him with a rueful smile, she asks, “And are you are going to follow them?”

“Of course not,” he says, laughing. “But I do have incentive to refrain from being too bad.”

She snorts, but doesn’t extract her hand.

“For instance, I won’t gather our coworkers to make an announcement about our new relationship when we get inside.”

“Lucifer!” She tugs him to a stop.

“What? I said I won’t do that.”

“No announcements at all. None.”

Does she not want anyone to know? She’s aware he’s the Devil now…

“Look.” She steps closer to him, her hand in his. “Dan knows. Ella will know soon, if she doesn’t already. I need to fill out the relationship paperwork with HR. You’ve seen how the rumor mill works here. Everyone will know about us by the end of the day. Probably sooner. No announcements needed.”

Right. Of course. His Detective prefers to keep things low-key. He suppresses a sigh of relief by sheer force of will.

“As you wish, darling.” He slips his hand to the small of her back and sweeps open the door with his other arm, ushering her in.

With a smile for him, she squares her shoulders and strides in, making a beeline for her desk.
