Looks like its going to be another spicy summer in the US.

There should be a chess rule that if your kid suddenly runs into the room and starts shouting her hunger games fan theory at you and it causes you to lose an online blitz game on your phone, it doesn't count. That's just not fair.
Chicago fighting back against ICE. You love to see it 💪
Putting together a popular school chess club is very difficult, with the exception of high school clubs where it is shockingly simple. Just order pizza for the kids every meeting, thats it, totally foolproof. Get grocery store pizzas and bake it yourself if you're cheap. It will cost like $10.
I didn't know the guy who tried to cover up the My Lai massacre was a chess player.
Important lesson to learn early 📝
The US Chess federation is STILL selling a Tate family worshiping book full of "life lessons" with the whole rotten clan on the cover.
LONDON (AP) — British prosecutors say influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been charged with rape.
It occurs to me that the profit motive negatively affects chess improvement as much as anything else There is a strong incentive to push improvers in the direction of specialist "knowledge" that coaches and content providers can provide, instead of the thousands of hours of practice that they can't
@lichess The Russian Agricultural Bank was sanctioned by the EU in August 2022. Ideally do not transmit their tournaments, but at least do not advertise their logo.
Reading the QueenRosieMary blog about Chess GM Christopher Yoo punching a women from behind with numerous witnesses and predictably there is commentator that somehow takes Yoo's side. These animals are not as much the problem as the chess federations/clubs/websites that refuse to confront them.
“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943
ABC news, Times Magazine, CNN and many others reported the "dire wolf" scam as real. Others (like NPR) more or less did the same but hedged by quoting real scientists saying its all bullshit. If its bullshit why did you publish an article?!?
There's so much bad news right now that today, I'd like to focus on these adorable dire wolf puppies, which are in fact a GIANT FUCKING SCAM 🧪 skepchick.org/2025/04/sorr...
Isn't it great when chess engines do this cool stuff in real formal competitions unlike a certain deeply suspicious google product from a few years ago that I could name.
Leela just played the most incredible queen sacrifice for a fortress in the history of chess!! Up an exchange, Stockfish thought it was totally winning here, when Leela sacced her queen with 47...Qxf5!! 👇
While ivy league chancellors and high powered corporate lawyers fall all over themselves to capitulate as quickly as possible, a bunch of school teachers making $40k a year are the ones fighting back.
More details: ICE goons were turned away at HD Cooke. They tried to seize the school nurse in the parking lot without a warrant, but backed off after staff intervened.
The Chess content mills continue to be both embarrassingly dumb and concretely harmful. "Lie detectors" are a scam. They've been used to both convict innocent people and exonerate criminals, and now Hikaru et al have used their gigantic platforms to contribute to the problem.
Apparently the corporate media has already decided to accept Trumps framing of everything, even the "liberal" wing. Theres no reason to think Colombia "backed down." They insisted on humane treatment of their citizens, while in transit. Apparently the US agreed. The same thing happened in 2023.
saw this reddit post today and couldn't stop crying. suddenly that old clip of the 13 yo Murzin crying on the board after a loss made so much sense. i will always be rooting for him.
I don't think most realize that classical chess isn't being phased out because the fans want it, its happening because rapid/blitz are a better business model. Corporations don't give customers what they want, they give them what makes the most money. The same is true of online vs. OTB.
When I'm winning, the trick I use is to have a little internal pep talk and tell myself that I'm going to stay focused and finish the game strong and then I don't.
How do I stop losing from winning positions? Haha just kidding y'all everyone knows that's impossible
@chessable.com decided to follow the arrogant management cliche “the customer is an idiot”. The emailed us that “Chessable PRO's discount now stacks with other discounts” but when you go to the courses sales you realize that now, they are the half of what they use to be!!! #chess #chesspunks

Magnus truly is the greatest. Plenty of greats, but they all foolishly tried to play within the rules. Nobody had the guile to negotiate a better deal mid tournament. The rules are the rules? Ok FIDE. Why dont you give me your real best offer so we can get out of here.
Imagine if the Super Bowl could end in a tie. Everybody goes home happy, ultimate win-win scenario. It would be great. Thats why chess is the best sport.
The more serious lesson we've learned from the Magnus jeans incident is that apparently you'd need an electron microscope to see the sub-atomicly tiny amount of FIDEs's shit that Magnus is prepared to put up with. If it was Norway Chess, I guarantee you he's still playing.
As a man prevented from attending numerous funerals and weddings in jeans (by my wife) because I was "under-dressed," let me say that Magnus is my goddamn hero. Greatest of all time by a mile, a cultural icon. I could kiss him. My jeans yearn to breathe free.
I've been using this app for maybe a month and nobody has threatened to sue me. I don't know if that means its nicer here or that I'm getting old🤔
Many GMs are PRECISELY the sort of person to cheat. Chess comes easy to them, so they lazily assume that cheating will be easy too. Remember this the next time a GM says they "just know" when somebody is cheating, they probably dont know a damn thing.
Oof. Glek was as high as #12 in the world in the mid 1990s. Why do this?!
