NorseMap

@norsemap.bsky.social

Project based @UCC & funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant. Aiming to map the Viking legacy in Europe with the help of the public & to understand the evolution of the perception of the Vikings over the past 200 years.

In 1904, archaeologists uncovered one of the greatest Viking Age discoveries ever made. The Oseberg ship, dating to the early 9th century, had lain hidden beneath a burial mound for over a thousand years. 🧵👇

The project team was privileged to visit the new excavation of the Viking settlement at Woodstown near Waterford at the invite of Neil Jackman, and to see the finds that are already coming to light from this Irish/Norwegian dig. Big ideas for the site, which would be such a boost to the region.

⚔️ When Vikings meet road safety. "A Helmet Has Always Been a Good Idea" is a clever campaign that uses Viking imagery to deliver a memorable road safety message. A great example of how Norse-themed imagery continues to be repurposed in contemporary marketing. #UCC #NorseMap #iViking #CACCS
