The 2nd batch of @pottedhistory.bsky.social 's Roman amphorae are being fired today. I his "pile of bricks" kiln. As they are so large, it needs to be a very slow, gentle start to drive off all the moisture. It's a painstaking process. So here's to the blessing of the kiln goddess, Fornax.

After a successful first firing the amphorae are going back to the studio. Lots of moving and shifting.🏺

What's @pottedhistory.bsky.social up to now? Just firing some replica Roman style amphorae and playing at "mud pies"! Otherwise known as "clamming up" the kiln, to fill any gaps between the brickwork. This kiln has ring sections that can be added to give extra height when needed- as it is now.

WOW! This year's Christmas cards have just landed and I love them! I'm packing up the 1st batch now, so that my holiday maker customers can buy them ready for later in the year. We get a lot of customers with family connections to the area, who only get to come in the school holidays to visit.

Here's to the kindness of kiln goddesses (and goddesses in general, just to be on the safe side!)

Kiln done! Fingers firmly crossed and offerings made to Fornax (OK It's a glass of beer that I will drink) but it's the thought that counts!

Today I'm firing 3 amphorae in what I call our "pile of bricks kiln". An adaptable setup that allows us to change it according to needs. ⚱️

Everything had a good watering here in Rothbury, Northumberland overnight. Today is showery too, and my garden is looking grateful! Wishing you rain too, if you're in a place that needs it.

Today was very busy in Crown Studio Gallery, with lots of holidaymakers as customers. But I still managed to complete this small painting of the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle from Craster.

A pen and ink drawing by one of my sons in law.... This was created years ago, but seems increasingly pertinent.

Whenever I open the cash drawer in Crown Studio Gallery, and see King Charles' face peering up at me from one of the new ten pound notes, I can't help thinking he looks thoroughly offended to have been shut in there....

Today's small painting is the last in my current Bamburgh series (for now). It's a subject I often return to because I love the apparent solidity of the castle, surrounded by sea, sky and sand that are always in a state of flux.
