visited old elm for the first time by train marking 70/71 stations visited on the GO rail network. cute and somewhat picturesque station that really doesn't feel like you're still in the GTA. The windy climb up the escarpment felt like a rural branch line rather than a GO service.

Three charts of streetcar performance I made using the TTC service summary archives demonstrating change in streetcar PM peak round-trip times, peak headways, and number of cars in service from 2000 to 2025. *Headway and car charts include all branches combined
Thanks Aidan from Toronto Today for this great rundown of the big ticket action items that could speed up streetcar service.
Torontoβs streetcars are the slowest in the world. Could removing stops up the speed?
A decades-long debate is coming to a head as the TTC ponders ways to speed up its notoriously slow streetcars

love when we close lanes and create traffic for no reason..need to be cracking down on this shit
Since 2015, there are only 8 daytime bus routes left that do not operate past 10pm 7 days a week. The 115 Silver Hills is one of such routes and one can see why it was left as limited service. The route largely duplicates the 95 and 51, primarily catering to commuters in the upscale Silver Hills.
It's fascinating to see how poorly the 504 B and A services blend even when you take traffic and crowding out of the factor. Sunday midday is a perfect time to watch streetcar ops given the light loading and traffic conditions. Service eastbound runs perfectly in pairs even with no obstructions.
Something something transit priority corridor
Routes 32 and 34 reported 52k combined daily ridership in 2024. Line 5 is reporting 75k (β¬οΈ44% - not including remaining routes 32 and 34 segments) Route 36 Finch West reported 40k daily in 2024 but Line 6 is reporting just 25k (β¬οΈ38% - not including Humberwood segment replaced by route 906)
Metrolinx June 25 board meeting: Half-billion$ write off for new, but inappropriate signals; GO project status update; Lines 5/6 status update; much increased fare enforcement penalties. stevemunro.ca/2026/07/01/m...
These Dollarama-quality LRVs have single-handedly marred transit systems across Eastern Canada for nearly a decade. We need to bite the bullet and put the Alstom Citadis Spirit in the bin once and for all for we don't know how much more grief this model will bring our systems in the coming years.

The Habourfront 509 is currently running entirely in its own ROW with no EOL conflict with the Spadina 510 and yet still manages to end up in this state. Traffic, switches, and signals are not the complete story to the problem streetcar network.
Really absurd when two streetcars miss a complete light cycle because neither driver can agree who goes first across the intersection (only one car is allowed to cross a junction at once to prevent collisions)
Tried the new east-west shuttle. The service today was only $5. 15 mins from Cherry to Bathurst is awesome and beats every other mode of transport. Don't think I would pay $15 for this though.

Signage for the new Ontario Science Centre is up on Bay.
Alternative version with subway and light rail included too
Spent a few weeks editing the official GO bus and train maps to create this version. Additionally, bus routes are sorted by corridor and frequency instead of just being based on having train connections or not.

it's exhausting how we can put all the signs down and paint hatches on the road yet 3 iq drivers will still wait for a traffic signal that never turns green because it's an illegal movement.
The beautiful new Portland St cycle lane and the awesome modal filter at Wellington is now active. Looks like the signals at King are still being finalised.
The temporary 311 car might be the first scheduled streetcar service on Bathurst to run all the way to St Clair in decades.
Dufferin station and the Dufferin bus feels like a whole universe apart from where it was same time last year. Bus lanes, exit numbering, e-ink displays, proper LCD programming. They're really hammering out improvements.
So I wrote to my councillor a few months ago asking for improved enforcement of the rush hour King lanes between Dufferin and Bathurst. Let's see if this does anything.
SB Bathurst to EB Adelaide movement needs to be restricted or forced to the curb lane. This small portion of congestion destroys the reliability of the 511 and the credibility of RapidTO.
The number of malfunctional switch motors, including those at relatively recently rebuilt intersections like King/Dufferin, is concerning. It should be rare that operators must crank switches by hand on street in this day and age yet malfunctional switches are present for months or years at a time.

72 buses are currently logged into the Line 2 shuttle between Woodbine and Kennnedy today. Salute to the spare board. Fun fact this is more buses than the entire fleet of some GTHA transit agencies, including Barrie (48), Burlington (64), Brantford (32), Peterborough (60), and Milton (34).
Every time I ride the Long Branch streetcar I'm reminded that despite running in mixed traffic, with no safety systems, no fancy infrastructure, and very basic stops, the service provided is higher quality than Line 6. Why? The service is fast and reliable and that's what matters most to riders.
