For years the answer was J-Ram by default but I think there’s a pretty good case for Brice Turang being the most underrated player in the game now
Acuña not having a bat while he’s at the plate in his Kalshi commercial is very on the nose for his postseason showing
It’ll never be *easy* to hit 102, but it sure is a lot easier to hit 102 when you can rule out anything that spins landing anywhere near the zone
doing it for every pitch at 95+ is so funny It would be cooler to show the reading freezing over when a pitch is under 85 now tbh
Stop animating the shit out of the velocity reading, please. It’s 2026. We don’t need a cartoon every time someone throws 100.
I think either the Brewers or Rays are going to do a 2014 Spurs vs 2014 Heat to the Dodgers. Older best up team going for a 3-peat faces a fresher, faster, deeper team and just runs out of gas
“Pinch hitter Patrick Bailey” it’s like a different sport
Heard crowd chants for Erick Fedde and Brayan Rocchio in this series. The AL Central is wild, man

Yep. It was so maddening to watch him hit because he had an incredible approach and contact skills but when he hit the ball it behaved like his bat was made of wet newspaper.
I like Ron Darling but I have no idea why he keeps saying Miguel Vargas has transformed from a hitter who would chase to one who has MVP-like patience. He’s improved a lot, but Vargas has *always* been in the ~top 10% of MLB at specifically not chasing:

There’s nothing more terrifying or overpowered in October baseball than a 5’5 contact demon middle infielder.
Another quick update: -you can look for an MLB profile/pitch in MiLBers now, while also filtering that results pool by handedness, playing time, or level -added some easy to use presets on all 3 comp pages -a couple new pitcher columns for breaking ball/offspeed velo + usage
Some news for those of you that use my app: I’m rolling out an improved version with a ton of new features, including splits, customizable hitter & pitcher comps, plots on each page, updated SEAGER/damage/pitch models, sample size adjustments, and more. py-players.streamlit.app
Acuña is apparently Norris Cole now
Kiké Hernandez is literally just Robert Horry

It’s funny to think about how the only good game of Andy Pages postseason career was him pimping the shit out of 2 garbage time homers while the Dodgers were down like 10 in the NLCS
“5 and five” is a dated term Now it’s “4-plus and hit the bus”
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a worse way to go down 2-0 in a series ever
Down 1-0 in a series to the b2b champs, facing one of the best postseason pitchers ever and your only good SP is a) unavailable for Game 2 and b) not starting twice in a 5-game series. At least the Braves got their aura and hype moment on Thursday.
I got tired of looking at players’ numbers in my app and having only a vague idea how that translated on the field/in the box score. So now when you select/click a player/team in the display you can see their season line. Works on the comps & percentiles pages too:

Thought this would be the closest series going in (no idea about winners and losers, just thought it would be constantly tight) and that didn’t disappoint
Kind of alarming to hear that Megill 4-out save stat. Why do managers immediately use guys like they’ve been used before the instant the playoffs start
I enjoyed Waino’s whispered “…that’s right” after he called that 3rd cut-change for the punchout lmao
Sadly these Brewers fans are too happy; they’re doomed. That’s not what playoff baseball is about. Every second should be the longest most excruciating of your life. Each out is momentary respite or another nail in the coffin.

It’s deeply unreasonable to move any of the big deals with the expectation of remaining competitive. You should absolutely see what you can get for Duran tho. That doesn’t signal the end of your window and could fetch some real pieces to lengthen the roster.
The Phillies have run out of excuses. Four straight years of postseason regression, an aging core and a roster that keeps falling short. Dave Dombrowski has some massive decisions to make. Even Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber should be on the table. www.nytimes.com/athletic/765...
Pinch hitting your worst bench bat as the last out of the season is the closest thing baseball has to a Hail Mary
