OTD 22nd May 1940, my grandfather was wounded (GSW Thigh) at Bodø airfield by a German aircraft attacking their Coy HQ, whilst with the original (No.2) #IndependentCompany Was taken to the local hospital, then evacuated back to Scapa Flow, early June, then onto Meanskirk Hosp, Glasgow. 🫡

Massive good luck to everybody taking part in the @LondonMarathon today. Luckily done 2 (2011/2015), going for the hattrick in '19, but several serious med diagnosis' stopped that, worse luck. If u have the chance, go for it, what absolute amazing experience, miss those times. 👍🏃♂️😉👏
#OTD 25th Apr 1940, No.2 Independent Company was raised & assembled in Ballykinler, N Ireland, where my grandfather, Pte Thomas Hall, was to volunteer for, from his parent unit, No.2 Monmouthshire Regt., that saw service in Norway & his eventual pathway to the ARMY Commandos, that summer. 🫡

Been lucky enough to commission an artwork by Wisdom Art Prints about great uncle John Appleby's involvement on the special mission, Operation Wildhorn lll, it's of the aircraft they were on, KG477, that flew from their base in Italy, to a beetfield in Poland, late July'44. Really pleased with it.

Can't believe it's been 2 years since dad passed away. I'm still in shock of him not being here, saw/spoke to him virtually every day, walking to the shop, going up the bookies, coming around the house for a cuppa, chat & watch some sport. We are all missing you, dad. Love you. ❤️🏇😓

#OTD 1944, Robert W Pocklington, a PFC from a Special Pioneer Platoon Troop, 2nd Batt. 110th Infantry Regt., 28th Div, was awarded a Bronze Star for heroism during the Battle of the Bulge. Here he is on the right, with a Hank Schrijver, who I both met on a Normandy tour in '89.

#OTD 26th Nov 1943. The HMT Rohna Disaster. My grandfather was to witness it en route to Burma in KMF.26. It was sunk by a Hs293 radio controlled glide bomb from a He177A aircraft. It was to be the biggest single loss of US servicemen action to that date&was covered up during the war & many decades.
Was great to receive @DrHelenFry's book, 'X Troop Commando', for the winning bid on the @BBCCiN's Authors Auction. Many thanks for doing my dedication, plus the postcards, as well, appreciate it. Look forward to reading it & for a great cause, too. #ChildrenInNeed 👍📚😉👏
