DF update. Rather than digging deeper, I've opted to carve out the ceilings of the cavern layer by performing a "layer drop" an extraordinarily stupid maneuver where I drop several thousand tonnes of stone down a tunneled out shaft. <3

DF update. Still suffering from a lack of wood. We ran out of bolts during a goblin siege, and lost three dwarves on a frontal assault. Don't have a great plan to remedy the situation beyond digging deeply and greedily into the lower cavern layers. If I strike coal, I'll be a very happy dwarf.
