Kumiko Arakawa was 20 when the U.S. bombed Nagasaki on August 9. She barely remembers the aftermath, having lost her parents and four siblings. The following years were a blur as she worked to support her surviving relatives while recovering from the trauma. #CranesForOurFuture

Sadako Sasaki was two when the United States bombed her city of Hiroshima. When she was just 11, she was diagnosed with cancer that was caused by radiation exposure. While sick, she folded 1,000 paper cranes in the hopes that her wish to live would be granted.
