Sometimes it can be really chilly in the morning ... so working in the garden means a bit of Donald Ducking ;-)

Well... that was a nice break... The next module of my diploma starts, so it's back to reading about wine every day until mid-October. The good news: "research" also involves opening quite a few pretty nice bottles from Australia to Portugal and everywhere in between from time to time.

Great fun to take part in this project (and quite horny as you can see!)

August has three main jobs: 🍷 Starting the next module of my wine diploma. 🌱 Getting the autumn and winter vegetable garden ready. 🍇 Harvest... and then making this year's wine. I suspect the next few weeks are going to be completely busy...

Pool boy duties today. Nice enough… but I’d still rather skinny-dip in the stream.

I promised to take you on a walk around the Quinta... and here it is. I am visiting the waterfall, "Promiscua" which is a project for this winter, and end up at the fairy bath. Join me! ... and since this is only a small part of the farm, I promise some more walks and sights in the future!

In the shade, a gentle breeze, a table, a glass of wine…and a view to die for. That will be the result. After 78 screws. 🤣

... it must be time for a visitor again! And this time, staying in the "blue" room - which is usually for volunteers who stay longer. It is bigger and has a toilet, shower etc "en suite".

For years, I was a big city boy: London, Barcelona, Brussels, Hong Kong... and then I went to live in the countryside. And now I really can't imagine living anywhere else!

Some parts of the house are still pretty much "undone"... Half of it was a ruin when I bought it. But now it is slowly getting somewhere!

Finally... the suave winemaker picture... just this time, I really didn't dress up for it!

Someone asked me recently which books made me want to live on the land. So here they are: The Good Life by Scott & Helen Nearing and The Fat of the Land by John Seymour. Anyone else got a land-life book I should read? Let me know :-)

Imagine... living in a place called "Garden" ... ("Jardim" is Portuguese for garden).

It's potato time... so delicious when cooked with a lot of salt. They actually turn wrinkly - known as papas arrugadas in Spain and are served with smoked paprika sauce. Delicious :-)
