Only teaching international students make sense in any way. The logical endpoint is taking only international students, reducing research and moving many ops out of the UK altogether.
This is an important story, beyond the world of sports. There were BIG MONEY interests at stake here. But *organized opposition* to a cartoonishly corrupt sell-off torpedoed the plan. Almost immediately. There is a lesson here.

-the global web of deep alliances the US built over decades after 1945 was always one of its key sources of power, and a key part of what made it sustainably more successful than other great powers. Trump is destroying this, and so self-sabotaging US power, at a stunning rate.
Okay, non-economist here but the new US tariffs on Canada are just… kinda weird? Like they picked weird things to target (we have a Canadian tequila industry?!?) to go after slightly more than 5% of our trade. It is like they wanted 50% headlines but it is… targeting our honey industry?
21 years ago today, Canada became the 4th country in the world, and 1st outside of Europe, to legalize same-sex marriage. The sky didn’t fall. Hell didn’t break loose. Only Canada’s capacity for love and acceptance increased. Now over 30+ countries have followed Canada’s lead.
The biggest affront that Canada has committed to the US is declining to be annexed. The mere fact of Canadian independence is what annoys Trumpists. No concessions short of complete vassalage will satisfy them. So we might as well just get on with our lives.

Congrats Spain! But let’s not forget the treatment of the Iranian team, the refusal to let a FIFA referee in the country, the US government brazenly and without shame having a US red card decision reversed. The list goes on and on.
The same people who want to sanction Canada for the wildfire smoke have killed federal regulations so they can load the atmosphere with deadly pollutants while cutting cancer research and reducing access to healthcare.
Thank god its over. I absolutely love football, but this World Cup has tested me. I hope the US never gets to host again.
